As a representative for the Creative Health Institute, I had the pleasure and privilege to participate in the third annual Raw Spirit Festival October 12th thru the 14th, hosted by The Radisson Resort in Sedona, Arizona.

We set up our booth beneath a shady tree, and hung our banner from the branches. We were surrounded by red rock and soaring hills outlined against the clear blue sky. It was magnificent!

Many wonderful guests visited our booth. I was surprised by the numerous people who know Don Haughey, the founder of CHI, and who knew Dr. Ann Wigmore. I felt honored when they ardently shared great memories with me about them and their stay with us at CHI in Michigan. I realized thru their eyes how significant this work is, and how these extraordinary individuals, Don Haughey and Dr. Ann Wigmore, devoted their lives to supporting people on their quest to reclaim a healthful life. That is quite a gift of compassion to give to humanity.

Sedona picture

Over the course of the weekend, under the Creative Health Institute's banner, we sold many books, had long chats and were very busy listening, speaking and learning. It was an uplifting experience.

At the Raw Spirit Festival there were many inspirational and educational speakers, such as Victoria Boutenko, David Wolfe, Viktoras Kulvinskas and Dr. Jameth Sheridan, to name but a few. Not only were there many lectures to choose from, there was music, dance, morning yoga, many workshops and food demos (who could stop tasting?). It was so much fun.

The international crowd was an outstanding collection of individuals. A generally youngish mix of singles, couples, families and older folks who were all in high spirits, peacefully interacting with each other and enjoying the atmosphere. I was inspired by their commitment to healthful living and enthused by their sense of global cooperation and consciousness. Indeed, a high mindedness expressed itself in every gentle move they made or word they spoke. As a group they were powerfully aware and nonviolent, generous and kind, attributes you don't often observe in such a large crowd.

Last year there were 300 attendees. This year the count rose to an astonishing 2500+. If this is a testimony of the direction society is heading in the not-too-distant future, then bring it on, full force! What a wonderful World this will be!

Creative Health Institute is already planning our booth for next year. We've got some great ideas, so plan on attending the next Raw Spirit Festival.

In the meantime, you are invited to join us at our Open House and Luncheon every Sunday at 2:30.  Call us: (517) 278-6260.

Joy and Blessings,
Nina

Steven Gibb of Tuscon, former Program Director at Creative Health Institute, passes along a link to this video, How to Cook your Life, with Zen Chef Edward Espe Brown. While the video is about cooked food, the advice the chef gives is the same as Dr. Ann Wigmore taught - "Food should be prepared with joy."

arrow  Backslider's Corner

Backsliding but progressing is NOT about feeling guilty about slipping. Even if you weren't 100% raw this week, how much better are you feeling than when you were on the SAD?

arrow  Raw Living Foods Home Study Program

The Home Study Program about Raw Living Foods was developed from the teachings of Dr. Ann Wigmore at Creative Health Institute. We put this program together because we talked to many, many people who either didn't have the time, or the money, to attend the two-week hands-on program in Michigan.

Surrounded, as we are, with increasing toxicity in our food and environment, eating a pure and healthy diet is more important than ever. More and more people are starting to see that, and I believe that's why the Raw Living Foods movement is growing so fast.

The Living Foods Lifestyle includes other components besides just raw Organic foods. There is the "living" aspect of our foods, as well as internal cleansing, colon health, lymphatic system health, proper exercise, wheatgrass juice, energy soup, proper food combining, dehydrating, nutritional and dietary balance (lots of greens), and yummy food prep. All of this we teach at Creative Health Institute, and in the Home Study Program.

There's a lot more to being a raw fooder than eating fruits and veggies. Dietary variety, purity, balance, sprouting and personal detoxification are important, too. Now you can learn about the Raw Living Foods Lifestyle in the comfort and convenience of your own home. Learn how to detoxify your body, what to eat, why to eat it, and how to prepare yummy raw food meals that leave you feeling full and satisfied. The home study version of the Dr. Ann Wigmore Raw Living Foods Lifestyle includes over 50 hours of video instruction, and a comprehensive manual.

Complete Lifestyle Education Package

The Raw Living Foods Lifestyle has been taught by a series of visionaries in the past century. Dr. Ann Wigmore used it to cure herself of colon cancer in the 1950's, and then taught it for decades at Hippocrates Institute in Boston and Creative Health Institute in Michigan, where she taught others to heal themselves naturally.

If you can't get into a residential program, then the home study program is for you. There's so much material in the home study program - 15 lessons, 36 videos, 350+ page handbook - that you'd have to spend at least a month at a place like Creative Health to learn as much.

Fall Bonus

With the kids back in school it's a good time to explore a lifestyle change. When you order the complete raw living foods lifestyle Home Study Program we'll also include:

Jerry and James,

I just have to tell you that I am LOVING both the book Green For Life and the DVD Greens Can Save Your Life. I read the book in one night and cannot stop watching the DVD. I really can't thank you enough, I feel it is really saving me right now. Victoria just gave energy soup the fashion makeover it so richly deserves. Who would have thought that kale and chard could be so yummy? As they say, the proof is in the smoothie.....

Thanks from the bottom of my heart,
Erica

arrow  Vihara Youkta, wife of Viktoras Kulvinskas, Passes

Vihara Youkta, wife of Viktoras Kulvinskas, ascended peacefully, and gracefully in the company of loved ones on Oct. 16th, 2007.

Ms. Youkta lived the raw food lifestyle for over three decades. She was a beautiful successful Woman, and very talented accomplished yogini and dancer. Ms. Vihara, unfortunately neglected to have the symptoms from which she had been suffering for more than a year diagnosed until her condition was irreversible. A life of ongoing stress will cause distress to the body regardless of ones lifestyle. The recent stress of moving to Costa Rica, and loss of a loved one, exacerbated her condition rapidly. Like Viktoras, Youkta also survived some extreme abuse and suffering in her childhood which no doubt took an early toll on her overall well-being.

We celebrate Youkta's life and the fact that it ended in the perfect divine time. We are reminded that death spares no one.

This is a great loss to the raw food community.

Youkta left behind many devoted students who are carrying on her style and teachings.

Friends of Youkta can send cards and letters to the family, her son, Nick and Kim and their daughter Samantha Geraigery, at 1671 Somerset Ave, Taunton, MA. 02780.

Cards and letters will also reach Viktoras Kuvlinskas at the same address or email to survival4u@msn.com.

Contributions can also be sent for the Vihara Youkta Foundation, for the purposes of continuing her vision of building a school in Costa Rica to the above address.

A memorial will be held at Garvin Gardens, Hot Springs Arkansas Nov 11th, 11 am.
Her memorial services will be held the week of Feb 18th in Montezuma, Costa Rica.

See www.youkta.org for more information about her life and memorial services.

arrow  TV as a Chemical Basis for ADD

According to Daniel Reid, writing in the Tao of Health Sex and Longevity, the rays from a TV flicker erratically, causing uneven and irregular stimulation of the retina. “This choppy stimulus is transferred directly into the brain via the optic nerve, which in turn irritates the hypothalamus. In scientific experiments conducted in the US but ignored by both the government and the television industry, rats exposed to colour TV for six hours a day became hyperactive and extremely aggressive for about a week. Thereafter they suddenly became totally lethargic and stopped breeding entirely.”

Transgenictomato In effect their endocrine systems had been ‘burnt out;’ equally significant was the fact that during the experiment the TV screens were kept covered in thick black paper so that only the invisible rays came through. Thus the damage was done, not by the visible rays, but by the invisible radiation.

Some conclusions:
· Children learn to speak from their parents and parents don't play or talk enough with their children when the TV is on.
· Background noise from TV or radio, confuses infants. In response they learn to ignore all noise and then they ignore speech.
· Children of two years or older should not be exposed to more than two hours of TV a day.
· Children of one year old or younger should not be exposed to television at all.

In the words of David Roddan, general secretary of the prison governors association: "It's the best control mechanism you can think of."

Regardless of what you eat, if the TV is on, you're in trouble!!! One may as well flush one's organics and raw lives down the drain if they are going to sit in front of the tube, and forget about nutrition with your kids if you are going to let them play video games.

Radical insights on how the invisible radiation that can permeate even a cover over the TV permeates your skin and bones.

Raw Live and on the Road
- by Mele Aloha

I awoke this morning to the hum of the motor of the dehydrator and sweet and succulent fragrances blessing the the tropical breeze as it moved through the tropical Coconut Kidsz, whose lives are never dull and always an adventure. Total lifestyle revolution is an everyday occurrence for these kids and such is fostered by the blessings of island life.

Aloha from Maui's Coconut Kidz as they prepare for their latest road trip to Thailand and the Far East.  Traveling together, Sarah - manager of Maui's largest health food store, and Jasmina, who came to the Hawaiian Islands via a network offering live-in organic farming experiences, are preparing for their journey. The challenge of staying Raw & Live on the road is before them.

The first simple and sweet selection the Coconut Girlz have chosen is the plentiful and delicious Maui "apple banana." Cut into thin strips lengthwise and dehydrated, these treats require no extra sweetener.  Maui offers a host of variety in the family of bananas. These lightweight and durable delicacies will provide the mainstay for snacks for the girls during their travels. Bananas make a good foundation for fruit roll ups, as well and may be blended with additional fruits and poured onto a solid sheet and dehydrated, then rolled. Yum!!!

To follow was a batch of savory Pesto Squash rolls, which look a lot like sushi at first glance.  The first step in this preparation is to slice fresh organic zuc squash lengthwise, then spread with a delicious live basil macadamia nut pesto, sprinkle with finely diced tomato pieces and herbs, and dehydrate overnight.  These make a succulent and savory snack that is satisfying for any traveler.

Of course, the Coconut Girlz backpacks will include a few zip lock bags, a couple sheets of paper towel and an assortment of organic almonds, green peas, and adzuki beans, and other nuts, seeds, and beans for sprouting while traveling. This is a great way to get the protein needed for hiking and enjoying the splendid views that travel has to offer. After a short soak in the zip lock bags, the peas, beans, or nuts may be nestled in a moist paper towel and carried in one's back pack during travel for up to a few days before dining.

At home, upcountry in Kula, the Coconut Boyz will be awaiting the return of their Girlz and harvesting plenty of coconuts and feasting on the organic tropical cornucopia of delights the island has to offer. On island there are many varieties of Cocos and it takes experts, like Dan and Christopher, who have been harvesting Coconuts all their days, and sometimes nights, to harvest and prepare these delights for the most optimum usage.

A Coconut is not just a Coconut! Harvested young, Cocos make a splendid base for smoothies as the Coconut water - a "jelly meat" - may be blended together and then supplemented with other island fruits, such as the apple banana, fresh Kula strawberries, and of course, some Kona grown spirulina for maximum green power. Coconut milk, which so many of us are familiar with, is made form blending the more mature Coconut juice with the mature meat and then straining to obtain a thick rich milk which may be used in a variety of preparations, such as energy soup base, fruit sorbets and more.

We welcome you to visit us again for more on tropical Raw Live Cuisine and traveling tips for Raw Live fooders.

In Aloha,
An invitation to the islands and an invitation to One Who Has Awakened,
Mele Aloha

arrow  Living Foods Family Farm Community Forming

Here are some pictures of Hal Blackmarr's property in Macon, GA. His dream is to turn this 10 acre piece into a "Living Foods Family Farm Community."

He intends to do this by attracting like-minded people to the Macon, GA area, to work in the area, develop a community kitchen/Library/Meeting Place, start a Living Food Support Group, and perhaps come together in order to start a healing center in Macon.

His private, wooded, quiet property is surrounded by and explosion of business and new homes. The area is growing rapidly due to overpopulation in Atlanta. Plenty of jobs. Commuter transportation to and from Atlanta is in the city's future plans. Occasional freeze in winter, otherwise mild climate, though humid in summer. Plenty of rain.
