the evening!

Study Shows Organic Produce is
Healthier |
DAVIS, Calif., July 11 (UPI) Growing food organically
over time may result in healthier food, according to a U.S. study that found
higher flavonoid levels in organic tomatoes.
Alyson E. Mitchell, of the University of California at
Davis, and colleagues compared levels of key flavonoids in tomatoes harvested
over a 10-year period from two matched fields -- one farmed organically and the
other with conventional methods that included commercial fertilizers.
The research focused on tomatoes because per capita
consumption in the United States is so high, second only to potatoes.
Researchers analyzed organic and conventional tomatoes that had been dried and
archived under identical conditions from 1994 to 2004.
The levels of flavonoids increased over time in
samples from organic treatments, whereas the levels of flavonoids did not vary
significantly in conventional treatments, according to the study published
in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Flavonoids may protect against cancer, heart disease, and
other age-related diseases.

Last Saturday we did grocery shopping at the local
farmers market. It was a very small farmers market. One stand, to
be exact. Mind you, we live in rural Georgia. But what a find we got. A real
watermelon, with seeds and all. I dont know how they get watermelon
without seeds, and I really dont care to know. But what a difference in
taste and color compared to the seedless version. And the size of the melon, as
heavy as two bowling balls combined. And all for $4! So, this watermelon turned
out to become a watermelon bomb of concentrated nutrients.

The watermelon rind has the richest proteins, vitamins, and minerals.
Vitamins A, B, and C are found in the rind, along with their respective enzymes
and other elements. Melons aid in the elimination of uric acid, and are
beneficial to the urinary tract, bladder and kidney.
The water of life is found in abundance in
watermelons, and they will prove to be the safest means of cleaning the
bodys waste, while at the same time providing nourishment. Watermelon is
a wonderful aid for the person with an acid condition, as it helps balance the
body to becoming more alkaline. |
So, why spend your money on vitamin pills and other
concoctions for cleansing your body if you can have the detox elixir via the
delicious watermelon juice? The juice is so refreshing, sweet (you might want
to add some water if your body reacts to concentrated sugar) and soooo tasty,
it is the REAL THING, for pennies to a glass.
Once in a while I drink only watermelon juice for a few
days. It does wonders to my skin, to my overall well-being and to my grocery
budget as well.

Creative Use of the Dr. Ann Wigmore

Eating Raw and Food Allergies - Dr. Flora

Will I be able to eat raw to get enough vitamins and
minerals for my body if I am allergic to raw apples, peaches, plums, cherries,
berries, black grapes, star fruit, kiwi, pomegranate, soy, rye, certain nuts,
etc., etc.???
I just don't have many foods that I am able to eat raw.
If processed for some reason in one way or another I can eat some of the above,
but this is hard and I seem to lose foods more and more as time goes on.
Can anyone there help direct me to someone who can answer
these questions? I am 50 years old and fasting a lot, too, in hopes of ridding
my body of toxins.

Will I be able to eat raw to get enough vitamins and

etc., etc.???
Who tested you and found that you are allergic to
those? What kinds of symptoms do you have when you eat them? What kind of nuts,
and are they soaked before you have tried to eat them? Were the grapes,
peaches, apples, etc. organic? Are you familiar with food-blood type issues?
I can't eat any of the most polluted with pesticides
and insecticides foods, because of the reaction to the sprays or even the
solvents that they spray on the rollers that bring the fruits and vegetables to
the boxes. I reacted violently the other day to something that was rolled to
packaging and had to investigate and found that the rollers on the machine had
been sprayed with teflon. Petroleum biproducts are the worst stuff. Kills
canaries and kills us! And yet, they still sell teflon pans and teflon coated
ironing boards and irons.
I just don't have many foods that I am able to eat raw.
I would quote from someone else that 80% of raw foods will give people
trouble with 'allergic reactions' if they are not prepared properly. For me to
try to eat cabbage, carrots or beets without autolyzing them first by making
them into sauerkraut/veggikraut, I will get bloated/distended abdomen/have
pain/gas/reflux, etc. If I eat Ranier cherries that are not organic, I will
have terrible pains in my body. Star fruit and kiwi are too acid for me, and
rye has a certain mold that is very dangerous.
All these reasons are why Dr. Wigmore stuck with
the foods that were non-reactive, non-allergenic, like most greens (not
spinach, watercress), and watermelon and apples, papaya and most organic
fruits, non-citrus.
Once you have a peaceful inside, with just half a
dozen items in a blended form, figs, almonds, flax seeds soaked, greens,
sesame/sunflower seed cheese, dulse, kelp, mangos, papaya, home-ripened
pineapple juice, you will then be able to add one new food (usually one of your
favorites that you reacted to earlier), and using something called the Coco
pulse test, see if your heart pulse rate increases by 15-18 beats per minute
and if it does, this is not a good food for you.
If processed for some reason in one way or another I can
eat some of the above, but this is hard and I seem to lose foods more and more
as time goes on.
My bottom line is energy, that's why I eat Energy Soup and that is why a
lot of people do. I don't require much variety and make it the same way most
all of the time, with just a few various greens, and watermelon or apples (I
prefer Gala).
Have you read any of Dr. Sherri Rogers' books on allergies? It sounds as if
you are so toxic that you are approaching what she calls universal allergic
reactions.
Can anyone there help direct me to someone who can answer these questions? I am
50 years old and fasting a lot too in hopes of ridding my body of toxins.
At your age, I wouldn't suggest fasting with water.
If you do a blender drink 'fast' you will not only eliminate the toxins, but
keep your strength up and rebuild nerves, etc.
I of course recommend a vegan diet to keep your body
from having to deal with inflammatory foods/chemicals/enzymes, and also for the
time being, avoid totally the nightshades and check back with us in 3 or 4
weeks. You should feel great.

This letter is from Charles. Dr. Flora's comments are in
italics:
I am sitting on the floor hysterical crying and ready to
give up on life. I have MS for 6 years and just recently had a bad flare-up. My
entire left side of my body from head to toe is numb and extremely weak. I also
have numbness in my right hand but not as bad as my left. I was diagnosed in
2001, presenting with dizziness and vertigo. I never went on the drugs and went
on a vegan diet. I did well for 5 years and then in '05 took a stressful job
and started eating junk.
Stress is a mess on your body when you don't have rejuvelac and veggikraut,
dulse and seed and nut cheeses to feed you the b-complex vitamins.
I had my second flare-up that year which was severe optic nueritis in the right
eye. Till this day it never cleared up. My left eye is fine but my right eye
only has 20/400 vision. So I then tried a raw meat diet called the primal diet
because I thought that it would enhance my nerve re-building. The creator of
this diet strongly advocates raw egg for the vitamin A/D content. I had a raw
egg and here I am.... a mess... I am obviously allergic to eggs.
I don't know if you had an organic egg or not, but it's still animal
protein which cultures bacteria, viruses and parasites, and I suggest strongly
that you get a copy of Dr. Hulda Clark's book, "The
Cure for All Diseases "
to give you an idea of what's going on. She is moving closer to veganism every
day, it seems, since that book was written.
To me, the most awful and dangerous food you can
eat for the rest of your life is dairy, in all forms: even
a tiny bit of the casein (a protein) triggers an immune response that makes
every part of your body respond in defense and just wears you out, dear.
You should be proud of yourself that you are searching and that God has
chosen you to have such a strong body that you can overcome all of this pain
and suffering if you just remember that pathogens grow in our bodies in cooked
foods and that our bodies need food with electric current (no cooked food, oil,
canned, fried, etc. will carry an electric current), or old (older than 1 hour
after being processed: i.e. blended, or juiced) raw food either.
I would encourage you to use some energy soup: 1/2 a
blender of watermelon or organic papaya or apples blended with 1 tablespoon of
soaked dulse leaf (a purple seaweed that contains every mineral and trace
mineral that exists plus B12) and flax seeds (for the EFAs), and 1 package or 2
packed cups of organic dark green leafy greens, mixed with parsley, dandelion
(no spinach), half a dozen figs that are raw or reconstituted, and pour the
blend into a bowl and dice 1/4th (2 ounces) of a small avocado in the am and 12
soaked overnight, rinsed and blended organic almonds in the p.m.
Eat this as often as you wish, chewing every mouthful
30 times at least before you swallow it, and think only about the wonderful
food that is sharing it's energy with you.

Later on, when you are well, you will be able to do the Coco pulse test to
determine what you are allergic to [see "Eating Raw and Food Allergies -
Dr. Flora Responds" (above) for a description of this test]. The energy
soup will give you all of the nutrients you need for now.
Your body has been through some terrible stress. You need to rest and know
that it will heal itself. In the future, you will be a great leader when you
heal yourself and share this information with others. Please contact Jim and

Italy |
I'm writing to ask you if you could please recommend me
an Institute like yours in Europe, Italy would be ideal.
A close person of mine, a 70 years old man is full of
cancer; first it was found it in his liver and in two months spread all over.
He was doing the chemo, but now the doctors suspended because he is too weak.
He is in Italy and in such a conditions he cannot face a trip to Puerto
Rico!
I will really appreciate if you can advice me on any
place close to Italy!

Institutes. Put it out there, people. Do you know anyone who is doing
this in Italy? Any graduate?
The Energy Soup recipe can be duplicated with the
fruit and greens, seeds and nuts that are in Italy and the enemas are the same
worldwide. The wheatgrass seed can be shipped, as can anything. Who can go and
help him? If he has the will, then someone can go to him and help him make his
soup and take his enemas until he gets strong enough to do it himself.

Wow, What a Weekend! - With
Corrections |
Last week we ran the following
article. In the rush to get to "press," I renamed Gideon, and
misnamed Jackie and Gideon's website (www.sproutrawfood.org). Mea culpa.
Here's the corrected article:
- On July 14th-15th, Renata and I went to Atlanta for a
seminar on gourmet raw vegan foods. Gideon and Jackie Graff were kind enough to
open their house to us, and we stayed as their guests and attended their
two-day seminar.
- Not only did we have a wonderful time, but we learned a
lot. I've been living the minimalist raw living foods lifestyle - throw a bunch
of sprouts and greens in the blender and call it a meal.
Jackie and Gideon showed me how easy it would be to prepare something more
appetizing for guests - truly inspiring.

I could say a lot more kind things about the Graffs, but
Renata was moved to write the following article and she's expressed my feelings
completely - James.

Oh WOW, What a Weekend it Was.
Jackie
and Gideon Graff, the Sprout people from Atlanta (www.sproutrawfood.org) hosted a
two-day seminar: How to Prepare Raw Gourmet Food. It was like Easter,
Thanksgiving and Christmas combined. What a feast it was!
We started out with an almond-carob-banana shake for
breakfast which tasted decadent. The grande finale was lasagna and zucchini
spaghetti with marinara sauce so delicious you will forsake the wheat version
in no time. And every dish in between was superb, just the right spicing,
texture and presentation.
I learned so many tricks and hints which make raw food
preparation even easier than it already is. Jackie and Gideon prepared many,
many different gourmet dishes which are readily duplicatable. The trick is to
use prime quality ingredients.
A bit of splurging now and then is necessary once one has
been on the healing path for a while and the body has regained strength and
health. Remember when we were on the cooked food trip? How often did we go out
and not think twice about spending our well-earned money on a meal which was
not worth it and was actually detrimental to our health? So, some pine nuts
here and there, some macadamia nuts instead of sunflower seeds give our palate
enticing tastes and help us to stay on the raw food path.
Sometimes I simply need a bit more than greens, a little
indulgence, a festive meal, something extravagant, exciting. That's what Jackie
and Gideon taught us with lots of patience, explanations and detailed
demonstration. No question - there were lots of questions - no question
remained unanswered. With skill, laughter and sincere dedication the Graffs
shared freely their many years of raw wisdom.
We were a wonderful mixed group, novices and veteran raw
foodists. We swapped stories. One story was extraordinary: From 22 to
2 - size 22, that is - the story of a young lady's weight loss when she
switched from SAD to Raw. I hope James will get the whole story sooner or
later, keep your eyes open. It demonstrates such an outstanding example how
food choice and preparation influence our health and well-being.

FDA Restricts Truthful Health Claims in New
Guideline
Ignoring more than 100,000 emails to Congress in support
of truthful health claims, the FDA has directly challenged the Health Freedom
Protection Act, HR 2177, with a new draft guidance, "Evidence-Based Review
System for the Scientific Evaluation of Health Claims", Docket 2007D-0125,
http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/hclmgui5.html
This draft guidance represents the FDA's current thinking
on the process for evaluating the scientific evidence for a health claim
through "significant scientific agreement (SSA) and the definition of
credible scientific evidence to support a qualified health claim.
The use of SSA and "credible scientific
evidence" to determine permitted health claims is both unconstitutional
since it constitutes prior restraint of speech, violating the First
Amendment, and an invitation to corrupt "junk science" being
manipulated to prevent truthful, useful and helpful information from reaching
consumers.
Similar rulings have been passed in Australia and
it's now illegal to share your experiences with your vegan diet with
others.

A wonderful friend has set up a blog for me because it
seems that I am repeating myself over and over trying to answer questions from
all over the world and I need to find a better way.
As I have learned from the two wonderful men who
published the two different e-books for me, it seems when I try to sit down and
write a pamphlet or booklet, that it doesn't work half as well as if someone
asks me a question and then I can go off on that. So, if you have any people
who would like to learn more about Dr. Wigmore's techniques/life/thoughts, then
just have them write to drflora3rd.com and
ask me and I will do my best to fill them in.
I am very busy in the daytime trying to organize classes to teach the staff,
parents and children of the YWCA's day care centers about wellness and good
nutrition, but as you know, the living food lifestyle leaves a lot of hours
left over to do other things.
I have said that I took a vow never to charge for my
services as a doctor if it had anything to do with Dr. Wigmore's Living Food
Program, but since then, I've learned a lot from the Physicians Committee for
Responsible Medicine, and Earth Save, not about what to eat, but about what not
to eat (even though I don't eat those things anymore), I can at least try to
explain, in layman's terms, what the doctors have no time to do, unless they
are involved with PCRM@PCRM.com or the many
websites that they have started, about diabetes, or heart disease reversal or
prevention or their NutritionMD website where doctors can learn about
nutrition.
Perhaps, with your input, I can write some little
pamphlets and booklets and sell them over the internet and thereby gain some
passive income. It is great to learn and great to teach, and many doctors are
very receptive. This is a great time of coming together and sharing. Thank you
for your input and help.
It's important that we work toward changing the government's guidelines. No
children should be given pasteurized/homogenized milk 3 times a day like the
government now requires.
It's important that we give our physicians a copy of the book that PCRM is
making available to all 2nd year medical doctors now about what foods to
recommend or restrict for optimum reversal and prevention of disease.
It's important that we listen to the doctors in their twice-a-month
teleconference from PCRM to see how they are trying hard to educate themselves
about nutrition. I am SO excited about what I've heard so far.
