arrow  The Future of Food

You might want to invest an hour watching this in-depth interview conducted by the Massachusetts School of Law with director Deborah Koons Garcia about her alarming and enlightening 2004 documentary.

612vegetables
Garcia's interest in the science behind food and how it could be manipulated started very early as a teenager experimenting on mutating seeds and plants with radiation and chemicals.

Back then, there was no problem comparing untainted plants with mutated ones, Garcia says, as the latter were thicker, bigger and more deformed.

That long-ago experiment Garcia conducted made such a profound impression, she maintained her keen interest in agriculture -- opting then for organic foods over conventionally grown ones -- even as she studied filmmaking at the University of North Carolina.

Originally, the film was going to be about pesticides, until it took a completely different and important direction based on a tip from a fellow filmmaker and farmer about the blight of genetically modified (GM) foods, a crisis in the making about which many Americans feel lukewarm, at best.

arrow  Labeling Foods Truthfully Isn't Expensive

A new study from Canada has found that the food industry has heavily exaggerated the potential costs of labeling foods that contain genetically engineered (GE) ingredients.

The study, commissioned by Quebec's Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, shows the actual cost is 99% less than what the biotech and food industries claim. Along with other similar studies, this report may help snuff out the argument that it's too expensive to implement labeling practices that allow consumers to identify foods with GE ingredients.

So... if it's so cheap, why are the biotech and food industries resisting this???? Let me guess...

arrow  Global Warning Against Eating Fish

The health risks posed by mercury contaminated fish is sufficient to warrant issuing a worldwide general warning to the public - especially children and women of childbearing age - to be careful about how much and which fish they eat. That is one of the key findings comprising "The Madison Declaration on Mercury Pollution" published today in a special issue of the international science journal Ambio.

Fishie Developed at the Eighth International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant last August in Madison, Wis., the declaration is a synopsis of the latest scientific knowledge about the danger posed by mercury pollution. It presents 33 principal findings from five synthesis papers prepared by the world's leading mercury scientists and published in the same issue of Ambio. The declaration and supporting papers summarize what is currently known about the sources and movement of mercury in the atmosphere, the socioeconomic and health effects of mercury pollution on human populations, and its effects on the world's fisheries and wildlife.

Five other major findings in the declaration were:

    * On average, three times more mercury is falling from the sky today than before the Industrial Revolution 200 years ago as a result of the increasing use of mercury and industrial emissions.
    * The uncontrolled use of mercury in small-scale gold mining is contaminating thousands of sites around the world, posing long-term health risks to an estimated 50 million inhabitants of mining regions. These activities alone contribute more than 10 percent of the mercury in Earth's atmosphere attributable to human activities today.
    * Little is known about the behavior of mercury in marine ecosystems and methylmercury in marine fish, the ingestion of which is the primary way most people at all levels of society worldwide are exposed to this highly toxic form of mercury.
    * Methylmercury exposure now constitutes a public health problem in most regions of the world.
    * Methylmercury levels in fish-eating birds and mammals in some parts of the world are reaching toxic levels, which may lead to population declines in these species and possibly in fish populations as well.

arrow  Eating Better Than Organic

Farmer2_2(Time Magazine) - Nearly a quarter of American shoppers now buy organic products once a week, up from 17% in 2000.

But for food purists, "local" is the new "organic," the new ideal that promises healthier bodies and a healthier planet. Many chefs, food writers and politically minded eaters are outraged that "Big Organic" firms now use the same industrial-size farming and long-distance-shipping methods as conventional agribusiness.

"Should I assume that I have a God-given right to access the entire earth's bounty, however far away some of its produce is grown?" asks ethnobotanist Gary Paul Nabhan in his 2002 memoir, Coming Home to Eat: The Pleasures and Politics of Local Foods.

Nabhan realized the problem when he vacillated over some organic pumpkin canned hundreds of miles from his Arizona home. "If you send it halfway around the world before it is eaten," he mused, "an organic food still may be 'good' for the consumer, but is it 'good' for the food system?"

arrow  Raw Living Foods Home Study Program

"To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art." - La Rochefoucauld

The Home Study Program about Raw Living Foods was developed from the teachings of Dr. Ann Wigmore at Creative Health Institute. We put this program together because we talked to many, many people who either didn't have the time, or the money, to attend the two-week hands-on program in Michigan. I was going over the books recently and realized that we've shipped 20,000 videos in the last three years! That truly amazed me. I knew that there was a demand for this training, but I had no idea it would be so popular.

Twenty percent of our orders have been International shipments. We've shipped to every continent; in order of per-capita popularity: New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, Canada, England and Japan. We've also given away many complete sets of the program, including DVD players and television sets, all over Africa.

Who received video number 20,000? Two friends from Wisconsin, Natasha and Georgina. They both ordered the complete Home Study Program on the same day, and we filled their orders at the same time. One of the videos we shipped to them was number twenty thousand.

That sure is a lot of videos. I hope that they're being well-shared, and being viewed often. Being a "raw fooder" requires more than just not eating meat. I hear from many people that have thrown their bodies out of balance by eating too much fruit, or nuts, or other raw foods.

Furthermore, the Living Foods Lifestyle includes other components besides just raw foods. There is the "living" aspect of our foods, as well as internal cleansing, colon health, lymphatic system health, proper exercise, wheatgrass juice, energy soup, proper food combining, dehydrating, nutritional and dietary balance (lots of greens), and yummy food prep. All of this we teach at Creative Health Institute, and in the Home Study Program.

Surrounded, as we are, with increasing toxicity in our food and environment, eating a pure and healthy diet is more important than ever. More and more people are starting to see that, and I believe that's why the Raw and Living Foods Movement is growing so fast.

There's a lot more to being a raw fooder than eating fruits and veggies. Dietary variety, purity, balance, sprouting and personal detoxification are important, too. Now you can learn about the Raw Living Foods Lifestyle in the comfort and convenience of your own home. Learn how to detoxify your body, what to eat, why to eat it, and how to prepare yummy raw food meals that leave you feeling full and satisfied. The home study version of the Dr. Ann Wigmore Raw Living Foods Lifestyle includes over 50 hours of video instruction, and a comprehensive manual.

Complete Lifestyle Education Package

The Raw Living Foods Lifestyle has been taught by a series of visionaries in the past century. Dr. Ann Wigmore used it to cure herself of colon cancer in the 1950's, and then taught it for decades at Hippocrates Institute in Boston and Creative Health Institute in Michigan, where she taught others to heal themselves naturally.

If you can't get into a residential program, then the home study program is for you. There's so much material in the home study program - 15 lessons, 36 videos, 350+ page handbook - that you'd have to spend at least a month at a place like Creative Health to learn as much.

The First Lesson is Free - Examine the program in your home for 30 days. Even if you don't elect to continue your subscription, the first lesson is still yours to keep.

Jerry and James,

I just have to tell you that I am LOVING both the book Green For Life and the DVD Greens Can Save Your Life. I read the book in one night and cannot stop watching the DVD. I really can't thank you enough, I feel it is really saving me right now. Victoria just gave energy soup the fashion makeover it so richly deserves. Who would have thought that kale and chard could be so yummy? As they say, the proof is in the smoothie.....

Thanks from the bottom of my heart,

If you don't stay informed, then who will tell the others the truth?” - Unknown

BeekeeperThe honeybee population is in grave decline around the United States. This is a serious problem, as almost 100 crops need honeybees to transport pollen between flowers, prompting fertilization and jump-starting the production of seed and fruit.

However, there may soon not be enough bees to transport a sufficient amount of pollen, as a result of colony collapse disorder; this is the catch-all name that encompasses a myriad of possible reasons why the honeybees are disappearing, ranging from a new infection to a compromised immune system.

Some economists have estimated this single species is worth as much as $14 billion to the U.S. economy. Moreover, pollinated plants may account for as much as one-third of the average American diet, and the healthiest portion of it.

Transgenictomato A German study may have identified a simple answer to the problem: The ongoing blight of genetically modified (GM) crops. When bees were released in a GM rapeseed crop, then fed the pollen to younger bees, scientists discovered the bacteria in the guts of the young ones mirrored the same genetic traits as ones found in the GM crop.

Rice The USDA public comment deadline of March 30th regarding rice engineered with human genes is quickly approaching.

The rice, developed by Ventria Bioscience, has been given pre-approval by the USDA for planting and harvesting in California. The plants have been engineered to synthesize a human protein that would be used as a drug to treat diarrhea. When planted in an open environment, these biotech rice fields have the potential to contaminate conventional rice fields where the crops are being grown for consumer food products.

According to Jane Rissler of the Union of Concerned Scientists, "This is not a product that everyone would want to consume. It is unwise to produce drugs in plants outdoors." [Monsanto is doing the same thing with corn here in Hawaii, despite widespread public opposition.]

Flu If you assumed the skewing of medicine toward the drug-addicted model that poses for conventional medicine has only been around a relatively short time, it's been alive and well for ages, according to writer and biographer Eustace Mullins, whose 1988 book, Murder by Injection, is the subject of this short Google video.

Mullins argues medicine's propensity toward needless drugs and procedures began long ago, as the Rockefeller Syndicate, U.S. government officials and the American Medical Association (AMA) formed an unholy triumvirate that successfully gained control of America's health care industry in the early part of the 20th century.
