arrow  Why Chew Your Food?

Unchewed food is one of the biggest culprits in the loss of nutrients supplied to the body. Whole living foods that are not completely chewed cannot be adequately broken down and assimilated by the body. Although the nutrient density and quality of whole foods is much greater in a raw vegetable versus a cooked vegetable of the same kind, the nutrients of the raw vegetable are relatively more difficult to access unless the food is adequately chewed.

All raw food naturally contains the proper types and proportions of enzymes necessary to assist in the process of digestion. In addition, when raw food is eaten, chewing ruptures the cell membranes and releases these indigenous food enzymes, many of which survive and contribute to the digestive process.

Retrain yourself to chew your food. Spend some time at it. The rewards are numerous. If you are still having difficulty, process or blend your raw foods for easier assimilation.

"Chew every mouthful until it is liquefied in your mouth."
- Dr. Robert Hoas, President of The American College of Sports Nutrition

"Chew your drink and drink your food."
- Gandhi

"One should not swallow any food without masticating it well."
- The Code of Jewish Law

"Chewing is most important. You have no teeth in your stomach nor in your intestines. The more you chew, the quicker you will master the principles of longevity and rejuvenation."
- George Ohsawa

"Nature will castigate those who don't masticate."
- Horace Fletcher, author and professor
- favorite admonition of my great-grandmother

"Never would it occur to a child that a sheep, a pig, a cow or a chicken was good to eat, while, like Milton's Adam, he would eagerly make a meal off fruits, nuts, thyme, mint, peas and broad beans which penetrate further and stimulate not only the appetite but other vague and deep nostalgias.

"We are closer to the Vegetable Kingdom than we know; is it not for man alone that mint, thyme, sage, and rosemary exhale 'crush me and eat me!' -- for us, that opium poppy, coffee-berry, tea-plant and vine perfect themselves? Their aim is to be absorbed by us, even if it can only be achieved by attaching themselves to roast mutton."

- Cyril Connolly

arrow  The Immune System and its Relationship to the New Epidemics - Movie Review

- with Joe Bassett
- filmed at Creative Health Institute

I've been digitally re-mastering the Creative Health Institute training videos, and spent the last week fixing up this one. I've smoothed out the video, and increased the sound volume while removing the background buzz. In doing this I've viewed the entire movie at least five times, and I have to say I've certainly been reinspired by it.

In this video Joe Bassett, long-time owner of one of the largest health food stores in the United States, gives a 90+ minute report on the state-of-the-health of Americans. He quotes from numerous scientific studies and reports, and shows how we could wipe out disease in America within five generations, merely by switching to a Raw Living Foods lifestyle.

Bassett starts with the Price-Pottinger report, but he supplements it with 30+ years of experience in judging and recommending health foods, supplements and alternative therapies. He ties cancer, arthritis, diabetes, colitis, lupus, migrane headaches and a host of other dis-eases to the Standard American Diet and processed food.

For those of us who want "evidence" of why the Living Foods lifestyle is a good thing, this is the video to watch and share with friends.

After repeated discoveries of dangerously high pesticides levels in Coke and Pepsi products in India, six states have announced bans of the products in schools and hospitals. In response, the U.S. Under Secretary for International Trade, Frank Lavin, has threatened India with withdrawals of foreign investment. Although the Indian Centre for Science and the Environment have confirmed previous studies, and found levels of pesticides 24 times the legal limit in the Indian-made soft-drinks, New York-based spokesman for PepsiCo's international division, Dick Detwiler, said of the situation, "All of the data and all of the science point to the fact our products in India are absolutely safe." A preliminary survey of beef and poultry sold in U.S. supermarkets conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found relatively high levels of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, according to a report presented at the 101st annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in May 2001. FDA microbiologist Dr. David Wagner reported that investigators found "fairly substantial amounts of resistance to a number of drugs." For more information: http://www.organicauthority.com.

Why Grow GM Crops that need Pesticides Anyway??? The GM cotton initially proved useful in China - after three years of using it, farmers cut their pesticide use by more than 70 percent, and were earning as much as 36 percent more than their peers as a result. After seven years, however, the GM farmers needed to spray just as much as conventional farmers. Since the GM seed costs three times the amount of conventional seed, farmers using the GM plant were making less money in comparison: http://www.mercola.com/2006/aug/24/why_grow_gm_crops_that_need_pesticides_anyway.htm.

"The gathering of people is what most frightens oppressive government. Wherever freedom reigns in the world, there is open communication amongst people. When we gather, we gain power. When we fail to gather, we only fail ourselves. Therefore, let us not forsake the gathering of ourselves together. It is as vital now as it has ever been." - Jay North

I like green smoothies so much that I bought an extra blender and placed it in my office, so that I could make green smoothies throughout the day. More than half of all the food I've had in last several months have been green smoothies. I have so much more energy and clarity that I have removed green juices from my diet. (Juicing has been something that I've been doing regularly for years.) Green smoothies have numerous benefits for human health, and are very nutritious.

This is Dr. Ann's autobiography about growing up with her homeopath Grandmother in Lithuania, healing herself of gangrene as a teenager, and discovering wheatgrass juice and raw living foods as the treatment for her cancer, after the doctors gave up on her. Hi Jim!

Well, I was reluctant to print all 88 pages of the Ann Wigmore book you posted but I am glad I did! It was great. I'm not done yet but just wanted to pass along the kudos to you all for the know-how to get it up and on the web so we all can enjoy it. It's great to hear the whole background of Ann. I love hearing the stories about when she was a child. Very enlightening!

Thanks again,
Peace,
Michelle Plucinsky
