Continuing Education for Raw Fooders |
Seven Common Mistakes that Occur on
Raw Foods
- by Victoria Boutenko of www.RawFamily.com.
- We're getting lots of email about the subject this article addresses.
Originally published May 28th, 2005.
1. Many raw fooders do not eat enough greens.
Solution: Regularly consume energy soup or green smoothies to guarantee
the proper amount of greens.
2. Many raw fooders do not consume enough fiber, soluble
and insoluble. Solution: Drink more smoothies or energy soups instead of
juices.
3. People on a raw food diet often consume too many fats.
When they try to imitate cooked dishes they substitute starches with nuts.
Solution: Use nut pulp left over from making nut mylks, use more seeds
and less nuts, and use more fruit and vegetable pulp from juices in your
mixtures, to minimize the consumption of nuts.
4. Raw fooders commonly try to become too perfect too
fast. They don't give their bodies a chance to adjust to such a radical dietary
change. Solution: Gradually adjust and purify your own individual diet
to help you ease into the healthiest diet for you.
5. When people change their diets they usually decide the
other components that make up health are no longer important, such as
sunbathing, exercising, proper rest, fresh air, etc. Solution: Practice
a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle.
6. People on the raw living foods diet often over-indulge
in some particular foods and neglect the variety of other fruits and
vegetables. Solution: Eat foods in reasonable quantities.
7. The biggest mistake raw fooders make is that they
listen to the raw food authorities and don't trust the invaluable messages
their own bodies communicate. Solution: Keep a diary of your daily food
consumption and how it affects your well-being. (See "Keeping a Food
Diary" at chiDiet.com/news/01102005.htm.)
These notes are from Victoria's lecture at Creative
Health Institute last spring. For videotape of the event visit
chidiet.com/tapes.htm#v47.
[Editor's note: Item #6 is the most common problem I hear
about. Most raw fooders, especially newbies, don't eat enough variety, and
either get bored with the diet, or physically out of balance. Variety, variety,
variety. There's not a leafy green in the produce department that I don't eat
at least a bit of during the week. - Jim Carey.]

Share Your Story of Victory |
Calling All Serious Illness
Survivors!
by Kathy Fields
Now 10 healthy years after my victory over Chronic
Fatigue, I am still inspired by peoples amazing self healing journeys. You will
not be surprised to know then that I am working on a book to share people's
success stories. It is to provide hope to those who are currently dealing with
illness or who wish for a higher level of health.
Here is where you can help. If you (or anyone you know)
have a true story of how you overcame illness and have gone on to accomplish a
new level of optimal health, you now have an opportunity to share your message.
Stories of overcoming any type of illnesses are welcome.
Let it come from the heart. Your journey is important!
Articles may range from 300 to 1200 words and you will
have your story credited to you in the book. Ideally submissions need to be in
as soon as possible for the first edition however I am happy to receive stories
at all times.
Full and updated details for submissions and project
progress can be found on www.healthstories.co.nz . Kindly send
your story via email to: editor@healthstories.co.nz.
You can help show people that illness can be the catalyst
for new beginnings and a more vibrant life. Your story can make a difference.
My Story
Some people still didn't know what they wanted to be when
they left school. I was going to be a fitness trainer. Already a fitness
fanatic I was riding 24km to and from school on top of my morning run or an
hour of aerobics.
As a 17 year old student, I was progressing well. I was
involved in a 24 hour cycling challenge, followed by a 5 day hike. At the
cycling challenge we had to re-use disposable cups, without knowing who had
previously drunk from the cup - not an ideal situation. Half way through the
hike, I could tell something was wrong. The hike was relatively easy and well
within my ability but my limbs felt heavy and fatigued.
Weeks went by and I was still dragging myself around
feeling lethargic, exhausted and unable to return to school. I couldn't focus
properly; even the effort of having a conversation was beyond me at times. This
was unheard of, I had never been sick for more than a few days.
Many doctors, specialists and months down the track I was
finally diagnosed as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). It is an autoimmune
disorder where your immune system attacks your own body, leaving you in a state
of chronic fatigue. A terrifying diagnosis yet there was a relief in being able
to put a name to what I was experiencing; I had a reason to feel this way.
I soon developed gratitude for this illness; it pulled me
up short and made me look at my life. I realized that I wasn't suddenly struck
down with a terrible illness - as it had first seemed - rather I had been
cultivating an environment for illness to flourish for many years leading up to
that point.
The key factor in my recovery was the mind, body and
spirit relationship. If any one of these is not in balance it is harder for the
body to maintain health.
Diet is far more important to health than I ever
realized. We are in an age where people are waking up to how diet can affect
their health and longevity. The amazing healing properties in our everyday
fruits and vegetables are just astounding. Fruits and vegetables in their
natural uncooked state are packed with vitamins, minerals and vitally important
live enzymes. I eat lots of fresh raw vegetables, fruit and nuts. I juice
vegetables every day which gives me a mega boost of live enzymes and
nourishment. The ultimate pharmacy is in every fruit and vegetable.
Thoughts affect all aspects of your life. The saying;
You get what you focus on is so true. Before I understood this, my
self image was very poor and I could not accept compliments from people. As an
experiment I wrote down all my self thoughts and was amazed to see three times
more negative than positive thoughts. The sooner I could love myself, the
sooner I could get better.
I began to meditate and live with an attitude of
gratitude. Visualization is used by peak performance athletes. I started
seeing and feeling myself in a state of renewed health,
in the workplace and off sickness benefits.
With my new diet & self image I got off sickness
benefits, got the ball rolling with some part time work and within 3 years from
the fateful hike I was working full time and an active member of society. Now
10 years further along, every day seems to be even better. Having learned the
keys to health I look forward to a long and energetic life free from the fear
of illness.
Don't forget to pass this along so that my call for other
stories can reach a larger audience. Thanks for your help!

Raw Living Foods Education at Home |
Surrounded, as we are, with increasing toxicity in our
food and environment, eating a pure and healthy diet is more important than
ever. That's why the Raw Living Foods Movement is growing so fast.
There's a lot more to being a Raw Fooder than eating
fruits and veggies. Now you can learn about the Raw Living Foods Lifestyle in
the comfort and convenience of your own home. Learn how to detox your body,
what to eat, why to eat it, and how to prepare yummy
raw food meals that leave you feeling full and satisfied. The home study
version of the Dr. Ann Wigmore Raw Living Foods Lifestyle includes over 45
hours of video instruction, and a comprehensive manual.

The Raw Living Foods Lifestyle has been taught by a
series of visionaries in the past century. Dr. Ann Wigmore used it to
cure herself of colon cancer in the 1950's, and then taught it for decades at
Hippocrates Institute in Boston and Creative Health Institute in
Michigan, teaching others to heal themselves naturally.
If you can't get into a residential program, then the
home study program is for you. There's so much material in the home study
program - 15 lessons, 30+ videos, 350+ page handbook - that you'd have to spend
at least a month at a place like Creative Health to learn as much.
The First Lesson is Free - Examine the
program in your home for 30 days. Even if you don't elect to continue your
subscription, the first lesson is still yours to keep.

Book Review |
Open Spaces: My Life with Leonard J. Mountain
Chief,
Blackfeet Elder from Northwest Montana
- by Jay North (Jay's books are available at
www.GoingOrganic.com)
- book review by Jim Carey
Dr. Ann Wigmore taught that
all healing is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. In the Wigmore
program we teach at Creative Health
Institute and chiDiet.com we emphasize the
physical aspect of healing. We mention the other aspects, but leave the
teaching of those to others.
Well, most of the time we do.
After reading this book I felt compelled to share some spiritually motivated
comments.
In January of '99 I had just
retired, sold almost all I owned, and started my personal spiritual journey.
I'd been a scientist and a rationalist all my life, but had found that science
couldn't answer the Really Interesting questions. So I left science and
engineering to pursue my search for Truth.
In that pursuit I've read
hundreds of books, listened to dozens of lectures, and surprised myself as I
evolved from religionist to theologian to philosopher.
Which brings me to Jay North's
book.
When I was handed this book as
a 200 page typed, double-spaced manuscript, I took it home expecting to breeze
through it in a couple of hours. Instead, it took me two weeks to digest. I
could only read a few pages at a time before I had to stop and think about the
message Jay was sharing. Very few books move me that way.
In my spiritual research I was
attracted to American Indian spiritual lore, but until this book I'd found
little documentation of the broad overview that this book gives, and none so
clearly, simply written.
What I found in this book was
an excellent summary of my last seven years of philosophical studies. I've
reached an outlook on the Nature of the Universe that is virtually identical
with that of Leonard J. Mountain Chief, Blackfeet Elder.
I found, much to my surprise,
that after all that research and study, I've finally reached the level of
Spiritual Consciousness that the Blackfeet Indians achieved centuries
ago.
Before reading this book I
also believed that, in one's search for Truth, one must trod the path through
Plato, Aristotle, Aristophanes, Zarathustra, Krishna, Buddha, Abraham, Moses,
David, Jesus, Francis of Assisi, Aquinas, Moore, Szekely, Redfield, Dyer,
Hawkins, et. al., in order to reach the conclusions I've reached.
Instead, Jay gives us the
summary in short, clear words, as given by his mentor, Chief Leonard. This is
the summary and concise statements that I didn't think existed.
Excerpts from Open
Spaces: My Life with Leonard J. Mountain Chief,
Blackfeet Elder from Northwest Montana:
"Just as a dieter will
regain weight after they come off the diet and resume their old eating habits,
the seeker of real change must be willing to make a real lifestyle change. It
is easy to be enthusiastic for a short period of time to achieve a goal, but
the true test of commitment will be a change of the heart... a life of
service."
"Everything is perfect
all of the time, even when you don't think it is."
"
our true purpose
for being here... is Love, and the true unfoldment of the Spirit... there is no
higher purpose than to love another... We cannot simply examine this thing; we
must experience it in order to fulfill our destiny."
"The Spirit always looks
after you."
Now is a time of
paramount importance for all people to hear the message of loving each other
and our world, the message of being at peace with one another and our world,
and the message of finding joy in each other and in our world."
Thank you, Jay North, for
sharing your experiences with Chief Leonard with us. How blessed you were to
have them! Every Spiritual Seeker should read this book and become enlightened
by it. I find in it... Truth.

FDA scientists being asked to falsify data - The Union of
Concerned Scientists has released a survey of scientists who work for the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The survey reveals that one-fifth of FDA
scientists "have been asked, for non-scientific reasons, to
inappropriately exclude or alter technical information or their conclusions
in a FDA scientific document." The study strongly suggests that the FDA is
not adequately regulating products that significantly impact public health,
including food, drugs, vaccines, and medical devices. The survey also indicates
that 61 percent of the respondents knew of cases where FDA political appointees
have "inappropriately injected themselves into FDA determinations or
actions." Eighty-one percent of FDA scientists in the survey agreed that
the "public would be better served if the independence and authority of
FDA post-market safety systems were strengthened."

Raw Living Foods Weblog |
Articles are now being posted to
http://rawlivingfoods.typepad.com
as they come to my attention, making it easier for me to assemble the
newsletter when Saturday rolls around.
I used to say, "All the news that fits, we
print." Now I can publish ALL the news; I just pick out the highlights for
the weekly newsletter.
In addition, I've cut/copy/pasted almost three years of
the newsletter archives into the new website, appropriately categorized. Now
you don't have to dig through old issues of the newsletter on
chiDiet.com; everything is organized by
subject. As of today there are 725 articles online.
Many have written and told me that they set their
browser's homepage to each week's version of the newsletter (chiDiet.com/news/current.htm).
The new website at http://rawlivingfoods.typepad.com
should be even better for that, since there are new articles being posted
regularly throughout the week.
While the new website doesn't have full search
capabilities yet, it's possible to do searches from within your browser,
within each category. That and several other tips are posted online in
the FAQ
(frequently asked questions) page.

Raw Living Food Recipes |
Cashew & Almond Nut Butter
"Suzanne" suziesgoats@yahoo.com
Ingredients:
1 cup of raw cashews
1/2 cup of raw almonds
Directions:
* Use a strong blender or food processor to process nuts until they form a
thick, spreadable paste.
* This cashew and almond nut butter will stay fresh for up to one week in an
airtight jar in the refrigerator.
* Try this delicious cashew and almond nut butter with fresh celery sticks,
fresh fruit, or a green vegetable salad.
Note: you can substitute the almonds
in this recipe with pecans or walnuts. Pecans and walnuts have a higher healthy
fat content than almonds, making for more of a light and buttery texture.
Pecans will impart more sweetness to this nut butter than walnuts will.
If you soak nuts before eating them,
just be sure that they are completely dry before you blend or process them.
