Treating Breast Cancer with Raw Living Foods
by Mary Lou Sackett
January 26, 2005

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2003. I agreed to have the original incisional biopsy, which determined breast cancer, but without a clear margin. I then agreed to a second surgery to remove the lump and to have a sentinel node biopsy. I was told that I had stage 2 breast cancer. The doctors wanted me to have radiation and a mastectomy, or radiation and chemotherapy. I also was diagnosed with cancer cells on my cervix.

I am a chiropractor who has never agreed with the traditional medical approach, but wasn't sure what to do this time.

A friend of mine who I hadn't seen in about nine years showed up and told me that I needed wheatgrass and that I needed to go to the Creative Health Institute for help. I agreed to try it and went to CHI for two weeks in December 2003. I was still recovering from the second surgery when I arrived, and I also had a coffee addiction to conquer.

I graduated from the two-week program at CHI, went home for six weeks, then returned for three months to participate in the Energy Exchange program. I have followed the program taught at CHI nearly 100%.

I had no idea at first if this would help my breast cancer or how much it would change my life. Now, a year later, I would like to list the exciting "side effects" of my new lifestyle:

- shed excess fifty pounds easily!
- complexion has improved
- joint pains disappeared
- hair growing faster and improved color
- sleeping better
- went through menopause this year with NO symptoms!
- no longer have chest pains or shortness of breath when climbing stairs or walking
- feel calmer, more peaceful - no more constipation (was severe)
- no more cravings for coffee or sugar
- increased stamina
- no more phlegm problems
- skin tans more easily without burning (I'm fair skinned and normally burn easily)
- fibromyalgia-type symptoms gone (a year ago, I could barely walk because my feet hurt so badly)
- bees didn't bother me this summer! (I hope that continues!)
- latest pap smear showed only mild dysplasia. Each test has improved significantly. The doctor keeps saying to me that I need to keep doing whatever it is I'm doing.
- I don't feel "old" anymore
- and best of all, I had an AMAS cancer antibody test in August which was NORMAL.

Thank you CHI, Don, Jeanie and all the staff for supporting me and teaching me what I needed to restore the quality of my life! I am so grateful to my loving family and many friends who have also been very supportive of my efforts.

Don't Blame People For Not Following Your Suggestions
From Kindness: Making a Difference in People's Lives: Formulas, stories, and insights
By Zelig Pliskin

One of my students told me:

I give wonderful advice to people in many different areas. I tell people who have financial difficulties what they can do to increase their incomes, yet they don't do a thing I tell them to do. I tell people how to increase their level of happiness, and they don't try the exercises I suggest. I tell them how to better get along with other people, and they stupidly repeat their old patterns even though they don't work well. I want to help, but most people are resistant to change. When I tell them it's their own fault, they just become angry at me and don't take the responsibility themselves to improve their lives.

When you try to help others and they don't listen to you, you have a choice. You can blame them for not being more open. "They are resistant and it's impossible to help them." Or, you can view the situation from another angle and say that you are not yet as proficient at influencing and motivating this individual as you need to be.

A blame-free attitude is the best path to choose. This can motivate you to develop your skills and talents on how to persuade, influence, and motivate. It could be that what you said is exactly what this person needs. As you enhance your presentation skills, in the future you will influence others to follow your beneficial suggestions.

Focus on the benefits of what you are advising this person. Show him how he will gain from following your suggestions. Find out what stops this person from following your suggestions. You might ask:

- "What stops you from trying this?"
- "What objections do you have to what I said?"
- "Is there anything about this that bothers you?"
- "What would you need to know in order to test this out?"

If he is afraid to try, perhaps his reasons are valid. He isn't you and you aren't him. It's possible that your suggestions would be perfect for you, and a disaster for him. You can never know the entire picture.

When a person would like to follow your advice, but is apprehensive, do what you can to help him overcome his fears. Perhaps he doesn't have a clear picture of what he needs to do. Help him develop that picture. Teach him the steps that he needs to know. Perhaps he just needs time to get used to the ideas you are suggesting. If you feel certain that what you are suggesting is in his best interests, perhaps you can repeat your suggestions at a later time. Then you might be able to better present it or this person might be more open to listening to you.

This is a lifestyle choice, not a religion. Even if you're not eating 100% raw, how much better are you doing than when you were on the SAD (Standard American Diet)? Eating outside of the program is nothing to feel guilty about.

Don't Blame People For Not Following Your Suggestions - "I used to try hard to help people - then I had an insight. I was trying to help in order to boost my own ego as the 'helper'. Now I tend more toward letting people tell me what they need - and trying to respond in a way that will empower THEM, not ME." - from http://www.PartnersInKindness.org.

One big Green Smoothie a day is a great start... By that we mean lots of greens, and just a bit of fruit. The rest of your healthier lifestyle will come with time.

One secret of staying raw is to have substitute comfort foods. This is especially true if you're not much interested in, or have the time for food prep, like me. A recent discovery for me was finding 100% raw vegan, organic, non-soy, non-rice, non-diary ice cream. I pay about $40 for 4 pints, delivered via Fedex, and it's WELL worth it. Learn more at http://www.icesupreme.com. My favorite is the Butter Pecan.

Obesity Trends in America

An animated time-lapse map in flash video format: http://www.innovativehealing.com/obese.

But Wait! It gets better:

Dr. Yvonne Taylor in Kenya wrote the following after she showed her students the American Obesity Map. She is the founder of One Heart for Africa, a non-profit organization in Kenya.

My adopted Kenyan girl was tutoring other students outside at our compound blackboard and we watched the video of your obesity map as a group. They got a lesson that is in high contrast to their culture. Here in Kenya to be fat means healthy and wealthy, but they die of high blood pressure and coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes (maize is the most consumed food).

Their grandparents die at over 100 years of age, grandparents who never knew about githerei (maize and beans), chapatis (saturated fat fried flat bread), bleached white bread, mandazi's (like donuts), french fries, etc. They ate boiled pumpkin, cassava, and arrow roots as their starches while they worked very hard as subsistence farmers and breathed clean rural air devoid of smog and pollution.

A bad change in diet (and life style) has reduced the life span of a nation that had more 100-yr olds than we've ever seen in the Western World.

Wheatgrass Juice for Migraines

kid
(simulation)

Having been a migraine sufferer most of my life, I was happy to see the article about it in your magazine (Whole Life Times, 4/06, “Mastering Migraines”). I thought I would share what helped me to stop them, hopefully forever. I started eating a raw food, vegan diet more than four months ago. Unfortunately it takes a long time to detoxify the body, so I still kept getting them. Somebody advised me to have regular colon cleaning. So I tried that and I am free of migraines for the last month and half! I still have several enemas a week and small wheatgrass juice colon implants after them. I had three little headaches during that time, but I never even needed an [over the counter med]. Thank you again for the wonderful magazine.

Selling Your Kids on Fruit

Would you like to launch a Guerrilla Advertising Campaign on your family? Did you know that seeing an appealing image of food more than three times makes most people crave that food?

If you look closely you'll see that most cooked food and junk food advertisements use water droplets throughout their ads to make your mouth water. But really it's the water that is appealing to you. They are using your natural desire for water to sell you their dry packaged food!

When advertising to children half of the ads use pictures of fruit for the same purpose. They know that this is the food that children naturally crave. They use the real allure of fruit to seduce the children into eating junk. They even say "with real fruit flavor!"

Why don't we ever see really appealing commercials for fruit? Well, there's not nearly as much money in fruit as in packaged foods. And you can't patent a fruit.

So we've come up with a new project for our "Take A Fruit Break" Campaign that will allow you to take matters in to your own hands and compete with the billion-dollar junk food advertisers. We've uploaded a series of beautiful posters of fruit that you can download for free and put up in your house, your kitchen, your school, your office, your church, your community center, and everywhere else you and your children can see them, and you'll re-program your natural desire to eat and drink the healthiest food known to man!

By putting up mouth-watering fruit pictures where we can see them several times an hour we can counteract the hundreds of junk food images that bombard our senses daily.

You can download our free fruit posters at http://www.TakeAFruitBreak.com/psas.

Cholesterol Contest
- from Hal A. Huggins DDS, MS

There are many fallacies about cholesterol in advertising, general conversation, and even in medical diagnoses. Much of this is due to untruth in advertising. We have compiled a questionnaire regarding some of the basic truths about cholesterol, and are interested in seeing how many people are aware of the truth versus how many have bought into what is "common knowledge".

We have spent 3 months creating an extremely large database referencing the medical and scientific literature regarding cholesterol. If there is enough interest we will convert this to a DVD on the actual biochemical reactions and purposes of cholesterol. The following questionnaire is to be used as a survey to see where its application would be of the most value.

To encourage you to help me, we are offering a contest for those willing to download the questionnaire and mail it to us. At this time, we cannot set it up for you to answer on the web. Sorry.

First prize ---- USD $250
Second prize ---- USD $150
Third prize ---- USD $100

How close are your thoughts to the truth? The closer you are to actual knowledge - based on legitimate scientific research, not advertisements, the better your chances of winning $250.

Thank you for your consideration.

In The News

(Ottawa Citizen) Natasha Kyssa is lean, fit and glowing. At 45, she is a picture of youth and vitality. She says it's the raw food. For the past 14 years, this Ottawa woman has eaten "living foods" almost exclusively: http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/.

23% of U.S. consumers now buy organics at least weekly. “Consumers are telling us they're looking for food choices that are more nutritious, along with great-tasting and convenient, but they want help in identifying what's good for them,” according to Debbie Carosella, vice president of strategic marketing, ConAgra Foods Consumer Foods: http://www.organicconsumers.org/2006/article_639.cfm.

Wal-Mart, the nation's largest grocer, has decided to take organic food seriously. Beginning later this year, Wal-Mart plans to roll out a complete selection of organic foods - food certified by the U.S.D.A. to have been grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers - in its nearly 4,000 stores. Just as significant, the company says it will price all this organic food at a tiny premium over its already-cheap conventional food: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/04/magazine/04wwln_lede.html?_r=1&oref=slogin. [Our local Wal-Mart in Swainsboro, GA, has been a test store for the past six months, and we've been VERY happy with what they're carrying.]

Congress has passed an amendment to the Agricultural Appropriations Bill that will increase federal funding for organic agriculture research from $1.8 million per year to $5 million (as a reference point, eight times that amount was spent on Bush's last inaugural party): http://www.organicconsumers.org/2006/article_534.cfm.

Wheatgrass and Wheatgrass Juice - Dietary and Medicinal Benefits: http://www.rawfoods.com/articles/wheatgrassbenefits.html.

(Central Utah Daily Herald) It's been hailed as one of nature's superfoods. Said to be high in nutritional content, wheatgrass juice, which is made from sprouted wheat berries, is believed to have the ability to cleanse the body, neutralize toxins, slow the aging process and even purportedly prevent cancer. But to the uninitiated taste bud, it can be hard to swallow at first: http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/181023/3/.

Avocado

Avocados are brimming with essential nutrients, including potassium, B-vitamins and folic acid. They also act as a so-called nutrient booster; when eaten with other foods, avocados enable the body to better absorb cancer-fighting nutrients, such as carotenoids, found in vegetables that include spinach and carrots.

Eating avocados has been shown to lower cholesterol levels and they are a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, including oleic acid, which offers significant protection against breast cancer.

The potassium content in avocados regulates blood pressure and helps guard against heart disease and strokes, as well as aiding digestion and helping the body flush out toxins.

Your morning glass of orange juice may be doing more than just helping you wake up; it might reduce your risk of arthritis. Researchers at the University of Manchester in England have found a possible link between consumption of brightly-colored fruits and vegetables, such as oranges, bell peppers, pumpkins, tangerines and papayas, and lower odds of developing inflammatory polyarthritis. The most common subgroup of inflammatory polyarthritis is rheumatoid arthritis: http://www.brewtonstandard.com/articles/2006/05/03/lifestyles/life04.txt.

As municipal water supplies across the U.S. are taken over by corporations, citizens who were once proponents of water privatization are stepping up to the tap to figure out if there's any way to take back control of their water. Freshwater, a resource that has been considered publicly owned for thousands of years, is now considered "blue gold," and as such, is quickly becoming a privately owned commodity. Some quick facts:

- A German company, RWE, now owns the water in over 1,100 U.S. cities.
- In Illinois alone, more than one million people now have their local water supply owned by that same German company.
- 15% of the U.S. business water supply is now privately owned... a figure that has more than tripled in the last decade.

EPA and Pesticide Industry Pressuring Scientists to Allow Continued Use of Toxic Pesticides - Government scientists are blowing the whistle on the Environmental Protection Agency's attempt to allow the continued use of 20 highly controversial organophosphate pesticides without conducting adequate safety testing. Previous research indicates that these pesticides pose serious health hazards, especially to babies in the womb, infants and children. EPA scientists report that they are being pressured to skip key risk assessment tests. This controversy comes on the heels of the EPA's new rule which would allow the intentional dosing of pregnant women and children with pesticides: http://organicconsumers.org/epa7.htm

Genetically engineered corn may be slowly poisoning American consumers. Dupont's Pioneer Liberty Link corn was bioengineered to withstand high levels of the toxic herbicide glufosinate. Enzymes in the plant actually break down the herbicide, making it less toxic to the plant, thereby allowing farmers to apply higher levels of herbicides to the plant and surrounding weeds. Scientists are now finding that enzymes in the human gut are likely "reactivating" the herbicide within our bodies. Glufosinate is known to cause nerve damage and is a likely endocrine disruptor. Scientists are also concerned that by reactivating the toxic chemical in the digestive tract, it is likely killing off beneficial bacteria necessary for healthy digestion: http://www.organicconsumers.org/2006/article_637.cfm.

A divided Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that government whistleblowers have no First Amendment protection for comments involving their jobs: http://www.gopusa.com/news/2006/may/0531_court_whistleblowers.shtml.

In a day and age when a large number of Americans have a heightened fear of terrorism and other health related issues, many people are unaware of another serious health threat coming from toxic and poisonous chemicals we are assaulted with regularly from such things as: soaps, shampoos, shaving creams, deodorants, toothpaste, skin creams, cosmetics, hair sprays, laundry detergents, dishwashing products and household cleaners. The whole country is concerned about potential terrorists using chemical weapons that could kill and disable thousands or even millions. However, most of us are oblivious to the untold number of victims who are adversely affected each year by a silent form of chemical warfare that is taking place every day within the comfort of our homes. We are literally poisoning ourselves to death with thousands of toxic chemicals which are known carcinogens and hormone disrupters: http://www.healthliesexposed.com/pages/chemicals.pdf.

The US Health Care System, rated 72nd in quality, but number one in cost - worldwide, is known, by government reports, to be the NUMBER ONE KILLER of Americans - ahead of heart disease, cancer, and strokes. Still Eating Meat?

In his 2001 best-seller "Fast Food Nation," author Eric Schlosser is out to kill our appetite for fast foods like the Big Mac and its $1 cousin, the Whopper Jr. He admits they taste great, but he argues that such meals are filled with chemicals that could make cardboard smell delicious, while the actual food often contains microbes spread by fecal material. To eat healthier, Americans would have to pay a premium: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13150880/from/RS.4/.

When grocery shopping, read the fine print - Helpful hints to avoid being tricked by misleading package labels. Growers can give their chickens antibiotics every single day. These drugs serve the same purpose as hormones - to increase the growth rate: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12803309/.

A growing number of studies suggest that eating red meat does DNA damage to colon cells, which increases your risk of colon cancer: http://www.realage.com/news_features/tip.aspx?v=1&cid=16706.

For the first time, scientists have defined the collective genome of the human gut, or colon. Up to 100 trillion microbes, representing more than 1,000 species, make up a motley "microbiome" that allows humans to digest much of what we eat, including some vitamins, sugars, and fiber: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/06/060602073753.htm.

Over the last 30 years, the number of twin births has nearly trebled. Consumers of hormone-tainted dairy products are five times more likely to have fraternal twins than vegans: http://www.organicconsumers.org/2006/article_512.cfm.

Monsanto wants to make sure no food is grown that they don't own - and the record shows they don't care if it's safe for the environment or not. Monsanto has aggressively set out to bulldoze environmental concerns about its genetically engineered (GE) seeds at every regulatory level. So why stop in the field? Not content to own the pesticide and the herbicide and the crop, they've made a move on the barnyard by filing two patents which would make the corporate giant the sole owner of that famous Monsanto invention: the pig: http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2006/05/15/the_earth_is_flat_pigs_were_invented_by_monsanto_and_genetically_modified_organisms_are_safe_right.htm.

If these patents are granted, Monsanto can legally prevent breeders and farmers from breeding pigs whose characteristics are described in the patent claims, or force them to pay royalties. It's a first step toward the same kind of corporate control of an animal line that Monsanto is aggressively pursuing with various grain and vegetable lines: http://www.greenpeace.org/international/news/monsanto-pig-patent-111.

Andressohn Family Update

 Joy's 1st Birthday
Joy's First Birthday

The Andressohn's are at a new address now. They had to move into a home in order for their children to come home to them, instead of a rented space in another's home. They are approximately 4 blocks from where they were before, on 171st in a wonderful yellow home. No furniture to speak of and I am going to take them down to the Catholic Church thrift store to get some this week.

I took her to the grocery store today to buy fresh produce to make dinners for some of her admirers who are finding good health now that they have switched to living and raw foods. She so carefully picks out the most beautiful produce and prepares it with love. Delicious nut pates and sea weed salads, delicious drinks and seed and nut cheeses. She is very tired because no one was able to help her move, but she was so excited to know that someone cared enough to send a check for $150 and another for $25, which has brought their [bail bond] total down to $2,100 plus a few cents...

God bless everyone,
Dr. Flora Flora

We have been blessed with many leaders stepping up to the plate regarding the Andressohns. One of those leaders is Victoria Boutenko of RawFamily. We all know it takes a team effort to get a project off the ground and this is what the Raw Family is all about. Igor, Sergei and Valya play very important roles. However, Victoria is the one behind the scenes doing massive amounts of research so she can bring you her new and refreshing ideas. In fact, her ideas and writing have been so grand that she has been nominated as a finalist for the Prestigious 2006 IPPY National Book Awards! WOW is all we can say here at Raw Friends.

Green For Life

Victoria Boutenko has donated a case of her powerful book, Green for Life, toward the Andressohn cause. Each of these books will have a special emblem attached, like the one on the right, representing her nomination.

As many of you know, the Andressohns have been on a mission to gain the company of their children after a daunting 30 months of no contact. If you're not familiar with the case visit http://www.rawfriends.com/andressohns.html to learn the details. Then be sure to read our updates page at http://www.rawfriends.com/updates.htm.

   IPPY award

The Andressohns both have jobs and do have a vehicle, even though is does need some work. The next big step is the deposit for a new home. In the past we've been asking for your help and are VERY grateful to those of you who have helped from the depths of your heart. Now we're able to give you something for your donation. Anyone who would like a copy of Green For Life may send a check/cash/money order made out to “Joseph Andressohn” in the amount of $17.95. This equates to $14.95 and $3.00 for shipping. These books are packaged and ready for shipment. As soon as we get your check we will send you this dynamic book.

If you would like to donate via PayPal or credit card you may go to http://www.rawfriends.com/opendonations.php. Be sure to enter $17.95 for the book and shipping! This case of books equates to a total of $900.00 to help the Andressohns get their new home to reunite their family. Please send an e-mail to Victoria Boutenko at info@rawfamily.com and thank her for being so generous!!!

We only have a few of these books left, so please hurry with your donation and support a worthy cause.

Your continuing support is needed as we pay off the Andressohn's bail bond fees. For more information please visit chiDiet.com/news/LivingFoodsNews20060304.htm (halfway down the page). Thank you to Elen Morell, Linda of Chicago, Zdena & Karel Tettelaar, Steven Gibb, Donald Zabinski, Jennie Wilson, Gerald Perry, Steve Parker, S. Davidson, J. Wilson, F. Daley, Susana Veda, Ted Watkin, Mary Jane Moses and numerous anonymous donors for your generous contributions.
