What Raw Living Foods Did, and Do, For Me
by Dr. Jim Carey, PhD
reprinted by popular demand

Lately I've been getting a lot of email asking about MY story. How did I get involved with the Wigmore Program, why did I get involved, and what did it do for me? OK, I'll share.

For 23 years I lived in Key West, Florida, and built four computer companies on two continents. In '97 I'd had enough, and sold off the businesses, apartment building, office building, houses, and almost all of the stuff I'd accumulated. By the second week of January '99 I was 48 years old, free and financially liquid. I took a year off and toured the United States, traveling 60,000 miles of highways and byways, first with an Airstream trailer, later with a Bluebird motorcoach.

I also spent the year overcoming my addiction to cigarettes, something I'd been dependent upon since I was 14 years old.

Jim December 2000
Jim at 260 lbs.
December, 2000

By Spring of 2000 I was rested, collected, and tobacco-free. I'd relocated to rural Georgia, adopted a dog, and started building a house with my own hands. I also weighed 260 lbs. I'd been watching my weight creep up over the years, from my college weight of 165 to around 210 or 220 by '99. I considered myself healthy because at 45 I could still shinny up a 50 ft. sailboat mast and repair the masthead while holding on with my legs. But a year of sitting behind the steering wheel, and substituting junk food and rich meals for the cigarettes I was trying to give up really put the weight on me. Now I was 50, and single-handedly building a house. I considered myself to be in good shape, I was active and pain-free, but I sure was getting big.

So... January, 2001. New Year's Resolution - go on a diet. I read about health and nutrition, then put myself on a 1700 calorie-a-day Vegetarian diet, substituting soy products for meat. I walked at least three miles a day, five times a week. In four months I lost 20 lbs, putting my weight at 240. I kept counting calories in my little notebook, I kept walking 15 miles or more a week, and by Summer - still 240 lbs!

I could not lose any more weight. Very frustrating. If I went off my diet for a special weekend in Savannah I'd gain 5 lbs in two days, then take a week or more to get it back off.

Back to the Internet, researching. I learned about toxicity, raw living foods, and various programs. I read webpages written by people that had been on one diet or another, sometimes for a decade, but after initial improvements their health deteriorated, and they were facing new health challenges because of the inadequacies of the dietary lifestyle they'd adopted.

The more I studied, the more one program stood out. The raw living foods lifestyle, as taught by Dr. Ann Wigmore. It was old knowledge going back thousands of years, and she was the most famous of modern advocates. What impressed me most were:

1) There are testimonies by people that have lived the lifestyle for 20, 30 and 40 years, and are thriving on it.

2) The Wigmore program combines raw living food, internal cleansing, and bodily detoxification. Three or more elements rolled into one.

3) There are hands-on training centers where one can go and experience the program for an extended period of time, and not just try to sort it out from a bunch of books or a weekend seminar.

4) Most of these hands-on centers are reasonably priced - I've paid as much for one night at a nice hotel for what they charge for a week-long training program.

5) What does the founder look like today, or what did they die of? Dr. Ann died of smoke inhalation while fighting a fire, at 84. She was fit and healthy. I've never been impressed when someone tries to sell me a lifestyle that doesn't work for them.

6) Other notable raw fooders have, over the years, died as a result of accidents in their 80's and 90's, not of disease or medications. All maintained an active lifestyle up until their passing over.

7) Wigmore is an educational program, not "do this because I say so." At the training centers they teach why the body isn't healthy, and what you can do about it. As an engineer and scientist, I appreciate this.

I could go on, but suffice to say, the more I looked at it the more the Wigmore Program stood out as being the program that would work for me.

Synchronicity came into play at this time, and an old friend from Key West called. When I mentioned the Wigmore Program she told me that she'd been through the program herself, several years earlier, and credited it with saving her gall bladder.

August of '01 found me at Creative Health Institute, near Union City, Michigan. On a trip North to visit family I stopped in for a three-day visit. I was so impressed with the personal experiences of the guests that I went back to Georgia, closed up the farm, and returned to Michigan. I still weighed 240 lbs.

In my first two weeks at Creative Health I lost 20 lbs. I never went hungry, I never missed a meal, I never counted a calorie. Indeed, I usually had a second helping at lunch or dinner. At the end of the first month I was down to 210 lbs. When I headed back for Georgia just before Christmas, I weighed 200 lbs.

Why did the program work so dramatically for me?

I was toxic. Not only did the organic, unprocessed food that Creative Health served reduce or eliminate the toxins that I was putting into my body, the program of drinking wheatgrass juice and doing daily enemas helped my body eliminate toxins that I'd been accumulating all of my life.

By eating processed foods, I'd been putting toxins into my body faster than my body could remove them. I learned that my body was storing these toxins in fat cells in order to protect me. Once I eliminated the toxins I was ingesting, my body was able to quickly process the backlogged accumulation.

Jim in August, 2005
Jim at 180 lbs.
August, 2005

I also had a large amount of impacted fecal matter. Most people do, I learned. The enemas cleared out this backlog. That's probably why my initial weight loss was so dramatic. All of this I learned in the program.

Since '01 I've spent three to six months of the year at Creative Health, helping out as a volunteer as I helped myself get healthier. I weigh 180 lbs now, and my weight is still slowly declining. I expect to stabilize around 165-170, what I weighed in college when I was on the wrestling team. I can stay pretty raw at home, but I can't come close to the yummy food they create and serve at Creative Health.

The other thing that keeps me going back to Creative Health is the feeling when I see others overcome their health challenges. I've seen people heal their diabetes, obesity, arthritis, colitis, after-effects of chemotherapy, breast cancer, hepatitis, heavy metal poisoning, asthma, wounds that won't heal, PMS, migraine headaches... all kinds of health challenges. I've even seen people stop smoking, painlessly, in just a few days. They didn't even notice that they'd quit. Wish I knew that back in '99.

I try to help Creative Health in their mission. I've installed computers and a network, rewrote the website, taught various classes, mowed the lawn, started this newsletter, served as Program Director, done public speaking, fixed toilets, painted buildings, made videos, answered the phones, stuffed envelopes, told my story on TV and radio, and created and market the Home Study Program (chiDiet.com) for those who can't get away for a session at Creative Health.

Through all of this I've watched people perk up, heal, and get happy. Like Chantel from Zimbabwe. She came to Creative Health with rheumatoid arthritis, which she'd had since she was 16. She was 26. At graduation, after completing the two-week program, Chantel said, "I stopped taking my medication after I was here three days. I've not had any pain in a week." With tears streaming down her cheeks, she said, "This is the best I have felt since I was 15 years old."

Last summer Chantel sent me an email. "While I am only 75% raw after these two years, I am not taking medication, and my pain has not returned. I am happy to tell you that I am now married and three months pregnant. Your program made this possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

What did raw living foods do for me?

They helped me lose over 60 lbs, they gave me an energy level that's like being 25 again (I even took up skydiving).

Instead of sleeping 8-10 hours a night, I awaken totally refreshed after only 4-6 hours of sleep.

My bowels are regular and move easily.

I'm happier - all the time. I have a more positive outlook on life. People say I "glow," and I smile all the time.

My cravings for snacks, sweets and caffeine have disappeared.

Most of all, I find my life more satisfying and rewarding than it's ever been before.

Getting Started

Getting started can be the hardest part of making healthy changes.

But just making a start on the things you want to do can help get things in motion. Take five minutes and do one of the things you want to work on, whether its exercising, eating raw food, drinking water, studying, working, creating, organizing, cleaning, positive thinking, meditating/praying or something else on your list.

In fact, do five minutes of each one of the habits you want to develop and you may find that you will make the time to continue them all!

To your health,

Making Rejuvelac
by Dr. Flora van Orden III

Antioxidants that people know about have nothing on this refreshing drink. People worldwide have been making fermented drinks for as long as memory and the oral tradition carries.

In Japan, there is a pre-saki that never makes it to the stores because the makers hoard it for themselves: no alcohol, just the B complex vitamins and something that protects the blended drinks from oxidation for about 4 hours.

One may drink as much Rejuvelac as one likes, use it as a base for seed and nut cheeses and smoothies, and use some for breakfast. Refrigerate the rest for sampling throughout the morning until we make some more fresh for lunch, for sustained energy. Dr. Wigmore suggested a quart. I feel each person's body will let them know.

If you make Rejuvelac with good grain and water and you are focusing on loving, positive things while you are making it, and the kitchen is a place of peace, it will usually turn out quite good and healthy.

Some people have tried to make it and it has turned out awful, and so have I, when I allowed people into the kitchen who were not live food people, and who were harboring or expressing negative feelings. It's amazing how it turns bad like sewer water! I gag to think about the smell!

Certain people have tried to make Rejuvelac and veggikraut and have had people in the kitchen who are not on the program and they both don't work. Dr. Wigmore taught me that those two (along with seed and nut cheeses, on a smaller scale) are the two most sensitive foods to be made.

In other countries women are not allowed to even touch a door of a room where fermented foods are being made if they have their periods. Yogurt, kimchee, saki, alcohol and vinegar also have their moments of protection in other countries because of their abilities to 'not make right' when there is emotional disturbance around.

Isn't that interesting?

Peace and Love,
Dr. Flora Flora

Backslider's Corner
- by Jim Carey

Through experience I've learned that eating Organic is even more important than eating Raw. I've lived in places where Organic foods aren't readily available. I've managed to eat raw, but I really, really see a difference in how I feel when I'm Organic AND Raw. I'll even go so far to say.... I think being Organic is more important than being Raw.

If you can't stay Raw 100% of the time, do yourself a big favor and at least Eat Organic.

Here's a new resource: http://www.GoingOrganic.com.

 Green Thumb

This is a lifestyle choice, not a religion. Even if you're not eating 100% raw, how much better are you doing than when you were on the SAD (Standard American Diet)? Eating outside of the program is nothing to feel guilty about.

One big Green Smoothie a day is a great start... By that we mean lots of greens, and just a bit of fruit. The rest of your healthier lifestyle will come with time.

My personal Green Smoothie/Energy Soup recipe (about halfway down the page): chiDiet.com/news/LivingFoodsNews20060311.htm.

-------------------------------------

It can take time to be able to get your emotional satisfaction from living food. To some degree we all get a healthy dose of emotional comfort from eating. Even if we are in the habit of eating cooked comfort foods, over time we can change the foods that give us these good feelings.

Establishing little rituals of place and time for the foods that you eat can help. For instance, sipping a smoothie while sitting in the sun, eating a salad in a beautiful bowl, chopping veggies with your children, preparing an elaborate raw taco or raw vegan sushi recipe and sitting down as a family, or drinking an after-work nut-milk-shake can all become soul-satisfying habits!

Wishing you happiness,

The New Nature of Nature
by Liz Lipski, PhD CCN
DrLipski@InnovativeHealing.com

The natural environment of those of us living today in many cases is our indoor, manmade environment. I, like many of you, spend much of my day inside, at my computer, on the phone, and doing paperwork. I'm pretty comfortable in this indoor environment.

For many of us, going to a park, camping, taking a walk outdoors seems like visiting a foreign place. For many us of we don't know what to do or how to relate. We spend so little time outdoors. Our natural home is now inside

But think back to some of your most inspiring moments, your moments of great freedom. Were you lying on a beach, hiking on a mountain trail, watching the flowers, leaves and birds come back in the spring, walking under a full moon after a snow storm?

I'd like to encourage you to try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. It renews us. It slows us down. It inspires us. You may feel most connected to self and others when you are outdoors. You may feel like it's not as comfortable as being in the comfort of your own home, office, or even a restaurant, but do give it a try.

Find at least one place in your outdoor world to regularly call "home".

Andressohn Family Update
a Special Report by Steven Gibb of www.RawFriends.com

Welcome to the latest update of the Andressohn family, who were struck down by the State of Florida for feeding their children living food and partaking of a living food lifestyle!

Great things are happening as we're getting closer to reuniting the children with their parents full time! Yes indeed, you did read that correctly!

UP TO SPEED...

The last we heard, the Andressohns were able to have supervised visitation of one hour per week at a government facility. This is a facility where all of the interactions are monitored between the parents and the children. This started on January 10th, when Joseph and Lamoy were first allowed to visit their four beautiful children after 30 months of not seeing or hearing from them.

Ask yourself how you would handle such an upset in your life, i.e., your children being wrongfully stolen from you! Even though the Andressohns felt wrongfully accused, they followed every requirement to the letter of the law, knowing that this would be the only way to get the children back into their loving home.

HOW ARE THEY DOING...

Joseph has been working in lawn care, keeping his hands and feet as close to mother earth as possible. He's working with a neighbor, and now sees the value of turning this God-given talent into a livelihood. Joseph wants to venture out on his own to create a structured business making relationships with different clients, allowing him to generate an income for his family. However, his Toyota van seems to be challenged with some minor transmission problems, and he could sure use your help. We'll share an address to send a love offering regarding the repair of his van.

Lamoy has now taken her skills of preparing living food into building her own client base, teaching and coaching people how to achieve total wellness. Lamoy is a true pioneer and a woman with many skills. And she does all of this while still taking care of her 11-month-old baby girl, Joyah.

WHAT ABOUT JOYAH...

Joyah is still breast feeding after 11 months, and weighs a whopping 16.5 lbs. I heard her cooing in the background today as I spoke to Lamoy. Dr. Flora tells me that Baby Joyah is doing perfectly fine.

HOW ARE THE OTHER CHILDREN...

When asking the other children if they want to come back and live with their parents, their answer was this: “We would like to live with you and Aunt Mary 50/50. When asked why they still want to live with Aunt Mary, their answer was, ”We like the food better at Aunt Mary's.”

Note: Two of the children said these things. One wants to come home full time, under any conditions.

Now, I don't know what you're thinking, but I smell some serious programming going on. Remember, these children have been with Aunt Mary for almost 3 years, and there were many times Aunt Mary seemed to be against the Andressohns during the original trial. Why did this happen? It's my opinion that she fell in love with the children because of their likable nature, and didn't know how to let go. In relating to the Andressohns lately, Aunt Mary has been much more positive. Please pray for this situation.

IN COURT...

On April 18th the Andressohns were once again in the hot seat, placing their lives in the court's hands. They were pleading with the court to allow them an extra hour each week. After the judge listened to all the testimony, she granted them this extra hour.

BUT WAIT...

That's not all! She also granted the Andressohns full weekends with their children, starting at the end of May, when school gets out. She also ordered that the children will be reunited with the parents full time at the end of the summer, just before they go back to school.

If some of you remember some of the facts from the original story, you will clearly remember Dr. Lambert telling the court that the children had rickets. On the 18th the judge asked him how he felt today about this case and the Andressohns, and he told the court, ”Even though I was on the opposite side, Joseph and Lamoy always gave me the time of day, no matter what was going on.” He then went on to ask the judge PLEASE to return the children to these parents, as this has gone on long enough.

He also added that they were very capable of taking care of their children.

With that said, we still desire help to pay Dr. Flora for all the money she put up regarding the bail. (125,000) You may go to http://www.rawfriends.com/donations.htm and share your heartfelt donation with us and receive a gift of equal value. Or you can just donate from your heart. You may also donate directly to Dr. Flora at this address:

If you would like to donate directly to the Andressohns for help in repairing their van, this would be most helpful allowing Joseph to forge ahead to build his lawn care business and give the family some stability.

If you have questions or would like to speak to the Andressohns please e-mail me and I'll get you in touch with them! They love getting support from new people and are wonderful to converse with.

STIPULATIONS...

Even though this all looks good on paper, we still desire some help achieving certain conditions of the court. The court has requested that the Andressohns have three items secure in their life before bringing the children back home. This is where YOU come in!!!

First and foremost is solid work, toward which both Joseph and Lamoy have been diligently working. They have the desire to work, and, as I shared earlier, Joseph is striving to be in business for himself.

This brings up the second stipulation, which is a reliable vehicle. The vehicle is needed for many reasons, and most importantly to provide safety and reliability for the children as a family unit. Lamoy will also use the van when she has to deliver her living food to some of her clients, and Joseph will need this vehicle to transport some of his tools for his lawn care business. As you can see, many aspects of their life surround a reliable vehicle, so I once again urge you to consider donating directly to this cause.

Last on the list, and surely not the least, would be adequate housing. Joseph and Lamoy are very confident they can and will provide a wonderful loving environment in a home that's good for everyone. The best way to do this is having a reliable vehicle, so the burden of a breakdown is no longer an issue.

WHOSE LIVES HAVE THEY TOUCHED...

When I was speaking to Lamoy today, we were sharing about what a journey this has been, and it's far from over. Even though they have been SO blessed with many wonderful gifts and people, Lamoy has asked for your prayers regarding the appeal of the neglect charges.

Super powerhouse attorney Justice Fields is back in the game, writing briefs for the appeal, every day knowing we're coming closer and closer. Also remember that the judge did appoint attorney Ellis Rubin and his partner to represent the Andressohns on the appeal. This was a miracle in itself, and we're so very pleased. BUT its not time to rest on these winnings and miracles, rather to step up to the plate and turn up the heat even more. Tap into the power of God, asking for His mighty blessings to bring justice to the Andressohns.

We have touched many lives with this case, and there are so many more to touch. We are seed planters, just as others who have walked this earth were, and it's our duty to continue on.

Lamoy was sharing that when she leaves the house, venturing into public places, people from all walks of life approach her on a daily basis. They say things like, “Thanks for hanging in there,” and “We've been praying for you the entire time.” Others will say, ”It's great that you are standing up for yourselves.”

Lamoy tells me she is approached by many people every day, knowing that she is touching so many lives for the stand she and Joseph are taking.

THE BOTTOM LINE...

We are prevailing, and will continue to do so as we forge ahead, but still desire your help with all the above mentioned items. Prayer is the most powerful item on the list, and we know all of you can pray. Thank you for your prayers.

Secondly is your heartfelt donation for the Andressohns, allowing them the flexibility to bring their van to safe standards, thus allowing them to conform with the court's stipulation that they have a reliable vehicle.

And, thirdly, we would ask that you think about anyone in the Miami area who may be able to help the Andressohns directly with some of their challenges. Maybe you know someone who owns a vehicle and would donate it to the Andressohns. The donator would receive a much larger tax break from a donation than from selling the vehicle to a private party.

On a final note, Lamoy asked me to thank personally each and every one of you for your support, and mostly for your prayers!

"The gathering of people is what most frightens oppressive government. Wherever freedom reigns in the world, there is open communication amongst people. When we gather, we gain power. When we fail to gather, we only fail ourselves. Therefore, let us not forsake the gathering of ourselves together. It is as vital now as it has ever been. "
