Green For Life
- by Victoria Boutenko
- Raw Family Publishing, paperback, 188 pages

- a book review by Jim Carey

In search of the prefect human diet, Victoria Boutenko compares the Standard American Diet to that of wild chimpanzees. Chimps share an estimated 99.4% of their genes with humans, but their diet is dramatically different from the SAD. In particular, they consume significantly more green leaves than humans. Based on studies and observations by researchers like Jane Goodall, T. Colin Campbell, Bernard Jensen and Ann Wigmore, and after three years and $35,000 worth of research, Victoria has developed a series of green smoothie recipes that enable anyone to consume the necessary amount of greens in a palatable way.

This book is destined to become the simplified handbook for Raw Fooders world-wide. Readers of this newsletter will remember how impressed I am with the work of Dr. T. Colin Campbell (The China Study - 08/06/05 and 08/13/05). I admit, however, that after the introductory chapters, Colin's work becomes bogged down in statistics, charts, graphs and scientific data. It's a textbook.

Victoria wrote a handbook for everyday use. In Green for Life her genius shows in the way she boils down several years of research, and a dozen years of experience, into short, concise chapters on each subject. "What Was Missing in our Raw Food Plan?" is a four-page chapter. "How Chimpanzees Eat" - ten pages. "Why is it Hard to Love Greens?" - six pages. "The Abundance of Protein in Greens" - eight pages, "The Significance of Stomach Acid," eight pages, "Roseburg Study," ten pages, and chapters about greens making the body alkaline, healthy soil, chlorophyll and healing, plant wisdom, and other subjects, all run ten pages or less.

Oh, yes. There are two dozen Green Smoothie recipes, and 45 pages of testimonies from dozens of individuals about raw foods and green smoothies. When Victoria writes a book, she sure ties up the loose ends.

In a world where books seem to have to be thick to get published, this is refreshing. Victoria gets right down to business from page one, stating her points and backing them up. The nine pages of footnote references and bibliography at the back of the book is a nice way to substantiate her research without bogging down the way the book reads. The ten page index is handy.

In summary, I recommend this book to all raw fooders, newbie or lifelong. You won't find it in many bookstores, but it's available direct from Victoria at www.RawFamily.com.

"In Green for Life, Victoria gives us a unique, yet simple and delicious strategy for boosting our nutritional levels... I would recommend this book to just about anyone. It meets the needs of those who are seeking to move from a standard American diet into a healthier lifestyle, as well as those who have 'been raw' for years!" - Phyllis Linn, raw fooder.

Greens Can Save Your Life
- with Victoria Boutenko
- a lecture and movie review by Jim Carey

On Monday, October 17th, Victoria spoke about her book Green for Life at Creative Health Institute. Like all of Victoria's events that I've attended, we started with a yummy Raw Gourmet Vegan meal, then we heard Victoria's talk.

Victoria was exciting, if only because she's so excited by, and devoted to, what she's learning and teaching. The scheduled 90-minute talk went over two hours, including a good question-and-answer session at the end. Many Victoria regulars commented afterwards that, "Victoria was at her best," and "Victoria's best lecture, ever!" I have to agree.

Gerald Perry, CHI volunteer, documented the evening on videotape, and chiDiet.com will have the video available online before the month is out.

If you'd like to pre-order a copy, visit http://chiDiet.com/tapes.htm#v64. The video will ship before the end of October.

A Journey Into Wellness

Now is the time to visit CHI and learn about the Raw Living Foods Lifestyle. The Organic Garden flourished this summer, and we're harvesting by the wheelbarrow full. At every meal we're serving locally grown organic produce, picked when fresh and grown with love.

We've been teaching the benefits of a plant-based diet for 29 years in an intensive, two-week hands-on program of health education and raw foods preparation. The testimonials of former CHI students and guests speak volumes about the Dr. Ann Wigmore program that we teach - CreativeHealth.us/testimonials.htm (be sure to see Jim's before and after photos). 80% of the guests get more from the program than they ever expected!

This two-week program includes everything. Well, almost everything. We do require two things you must bring in order for this to be a success - a smile, and a great attitude. We've learned that people who bring these qualities have wonderful experiences with our program. (CreativeHealth.us/about.htm)

Hiawatha Cromer is back at CHI for the fall season, inspiring all of us with her personal experiences in the Raw Living Foods lifestyle. CreativeHealth.us/programs.htm

Home Study Program October Special

You're sick. You're tired. Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?

The Living Foods Lifestyle was developed by Dr. Ann Wigmore in the 1950's, and refined over the last 29 years at Creative Health Institute (formerly Hippocrates Institute of the Midwest, one of several Institutes founded by Dr. Ann). It's now available in a home study version. If you can't get away for a hands-on program, the home study alternative is available at ChiDiet.com. There's so much material in the home study program - 15 lessons, 30+ videos, 350+ page handbook - that you'd have to spend a month at a place like Creative Health Institute.

For the month of October, the first Lesson Plan is free.

Examine the program risk-free, and simply cancel your subscription if you're not satisfied with it. This offer is only available through this newsletter, and you need to use this special link to get it: ChiDiet.com/special.htm.
