Here’s Step 6 of Your 7 Steps to Health & Happiness
In the previous installments we’ve talked about getting started, motivations, creating a wellness journal, documenting our current health, the importance of goal setting, building your wellness plan and not justifying ourselves to others.
This time we’ll talk about rewards.
Step 6 – Rewarding Your Accomplishments
When you’ve accomplished one of your goals, give yourself a reward. Buy a new outfit, a book, or an inspirational DVD. Tickets to an event or a fun destination are also a good idea.
What I don’t advise is rewarding yourself with food. Cooked food is an addiction, and many of us tend to use food for comfort and rewards.
Since a major portion of building a healthy lifestyle is breaking our old patterns of behavior, it’s a good idea to find other forms of rewarding yourself than with food.
My favorite way of rewarding myself is to go on a day trip. I’ll visit a park I’ve not been to before, or take a weekend camping trip to a special destination.
In our next issue we’ll discuss rewarding yourself for your accomplishments. In the meantime, here are some great, inspiring Raw Success Stories:

Dear Dr. Carery,
I’m following your steps and have started on going 50% raw from 2/11/09. I particularly like this idea of NOT REWARDING YOURSELF WITH FOOD. This was a common mistake I made in the past. I would reward myself with the very foods, I was not supposed to eat. SO NOW I HAVE DECIDED TO RE-ORIENT MY THINKING. And never use food as a motivator, CAUSE WHAT YOU SAY FROM EXPERIENCE TELLS ME, THAT REAWARDING YOURSELF WITH FOOD KEEPS YOU IN “THE WRONG FOOD ADDICTION CYCLE/CHAIN”. I have to break out of this food chain and MOVE to a new paradign no matter what the withdrawal symtoms. But the challenge is real fun. so is the fact that there are like minded people in this world that want to work towards getting OUT OF THIS CHAIN OF MISERY AND DISEASE. I love the motivational stories. I will keep you posted on my progress, cause this IS OH SUCH FUN.
Wishing you joy now and always,
Malini
