After seeing the Dr. Ann video I posted a couple of days ago, Leisa Wheeler, a Naturopathic Doctor in Australia, emailed me her video version of the Green Smoothie.
In this video Leisa talks about Dr. Ann’s origination of Energy Soup, and how Victoria Boutenko, a Wigmore student, turned it into the “Green Smoothie” to make it more palatable and thus, more popular.
Leisa’s website is EmbracingHealthBlog.com.
18 minutes.
I’m sure you will get a lot out of it ![]()

Thank you so much Jim!! Although I drink green smoothies EVERY morning after my workout, I always love a refresher on WHY it is such a great and crucial part to the raw food lifestyle. Especially with additions of superfoods. I’ve been inspired to jazz it up a little and get into mesquite again!! You’re RAWSOME Jim!! Thank you for your generous sharing of knowledge…ALWAYS!

i’d like the ingredients written down for leisa’s smoothie. mesquite meal? never heard of it. thank you

what was the “meal” she added for balancing blood sugar? I could not understand what she said. She added it after the goji powder.
Thanks!

Very good presentation of the green smoothies, we are just preparing quite the same in French !!! How interesting to see how things are bursting all over the planet at the same time !
I only does not agree with the consumption of such a lot of “supplements”… but that is up to everyone (and in fact could be necessary if the produce are neither organic nor grown from rich soils far from pollution) !

Great presentation video. Could not open her website.

What a great refresher of a video, very informative for those that are just starting out and for those of us that have some miles behind us.
Thanks Jim for all of your hard work at getting the news out on raw food, I for one am grateful to your dedication.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve fixed it. Funny how blogs are; I’ll fix one thing and break another. It’s all OK, now.

Thank you for the kind words. One of the 12 Steps to Being Raw is helping other rawbies. This is my way of paying back.

I agree with you, but it was such a good video I ran it anyway. There are no superfoods, and there is no magic bullet. Dietary variety, organic foods, exercise, rest, mental attitude – those are the keys to health, to me, at least. But i also agree with you; one should listen to their body and do as they feel is right.
Thanks,
Jim

This is Leisa who made the above video, and I just wanted to say a big Thank you to Jim for posting it, and to answer the questions on the Superfoods.
As I mention in the video, there isn’t any need to add the superfoods in – the green smoothie on it’s own is a fantastic healing drink – and certainly you wouldn’t add all of those superfoods in all the time, but it was just to show an alternative way of boosting up the smoothie!
What I used in the video:
MACA powder – Peruvian root vegetable good for hormone balance, energy, adrenal support and stamina
Camu-camu – dried berry, very high in vitamin C
Wild Bee Pollen – high in protein, vitamin and minerals
Mesquite Meal – ground seed pods from the Mesquite tree, good for balancing blood sugar levels
Goji Berry powder – high in antioxidants
Spirulina – fantastic green food
Cacao powder – high in minerals and antixoidants
Chia seeds – essential fatty acids, good for the bowel
Coconut oil – helps other fats and fat soluble vitamins to be absorbed well
Goodness that is a lot! It certainly gives the smoothie a kick though!
Enjoy!

Loved this video! Has given me just the kick start I need to get back on the right track and start the day with health and energy. Such an easy step by step video and backed with all the nutritional facts, I’ve forwarded it on to all my family. Thanks Leisa! Thanks Jim!

Hello Jim,
I always enjoy reading your newsletters. When the video comes, I feel stumbled because I can’t hear what she/he says. I am totally deaf and independently. I just wish someone can develop the opened captioned for all the videos. Thank you for your time reading this note.

Wow what a small world! I clicked on Jim’s site on twitter and there was this video by Leisa.
Hi Leisa, it is Bill from Raw Pleasure here, thanks for that wonderful presentation, the smoothie is very similar to one that I have nearly every day. YUM!!!

Dear Jim
Thank you so much for all informative emails, and thanks for this video with Liesa, I have never had a green smoothie before, I wasn’t quite sure about mxing fruits and veggies, and Dr Wigmore green soup recipe didn’t seem appealing. I make other raw dishes but wasn’t getting raw smoothie, now I am looking forward to making them. Thank you so much. I have forwarded
the email to all my frieds, and look forward to getting an alkaline body. You are an inspiration, keep up the good work.
Thanks Winsome

Dear Jim,
THANK YOU so so much for all this wonderful information that you are sending to all of us! I appreciate all that you do!
And THANK YOU so much Liesa for the wonderful video! I have been making green smoothies for the past couple of months after I have read the book by Victoria Boutenko – Green For Life! And I LOVE them!! It inspired me to start making a smoothie EVERY morning! And your video helped confirm my thoughts about the smoothie. My commuter friends see me drinking my green smoothie every morning and they give me a lot of interesting comments.
Thank you so much for the great information and confirmation!
Thanks, GW

Hi Leisa,
I liked your “Superfood Green Smoothie” vedio. However, there is just one request i have of you, during the vedio I was unable to get all the additional ingrediants you use to make it a “Superfood Green Smoothie”. It would be very helpful if you would be so kind as to write the recipe down so I could down load it, especially the additional ingrediants.
Thank you
Charlie

Really informative video * Well done Leisa.
I’ve always loved fruit but have reduced my intake, in the belief that it’s too high in sugar.
So I was really pleased to hear Leisa’s explanation as to why it’s OK to have fruit in a raw green smoothie. Combination of fiber with the sugars are absorbed slowly thus giving the nutrition needed for sustained energy.

Smart movie, thanks. Good information about the super foods. The tip on the coconut oil is great. I like to add cayenne pepper, Black strap molasses, turmeric, garlic and ginger, cumin, and whatever. The blender and the greens are perhaps our biggest help towards a desease free life.

Widespread demonstrations by citizens in the streets of Canada made the government back off on implementations there. Letters and calls to Congress, etc., don’t seem to be doing a bit of good. The government, especially the bureaucrats, don’t seem to be responsive to the citizens of the US anymore, and seem bent on doing what they think is best for us, just like my big sister used to do.

Hi Leisa Terrific video thanks so much for all the detail and straight forward explanations. Good to hear about the blender too, as Vitamix is so expensive here in Australia. Will be contacting you today about the David Wolfe Tour in Melbourne. Also love receiving your newsletter.

The most discovered green food ever for me is the green smoothy. Hats off to Ann Wigmore and her energy soup, rejuvelac and vege-kraut and sprouts. Where would we all be in our nutritional life had not been for her findings. I love the green eat life. I enjoyed the video but; I kept waiting for the avocado to go in the smoothy. Thats what I like in mine. The video was great Jim; thank you for sharing it.
January 6th, 2010 at 12:03 pm
Great video – I am just starting to learn about all these added ingredients and what they are good for – my smoothie is usually just fruit/greens/water – but the other looks great! Thanks for sharing.
